This should go without saying, but any negative comments about the owners of these cars will lead to being banned from the channel. If you owned a car that nice, would you be willing to take it to a drag strip? Let alone rev to 7000? Keep in mind these are not professional drivers, they are simply people having a good time, and we are very fortunate to even get to see these cars.

Thank you! As a guy who has run at the last 20 PSMCDR events, It's hard enough to get guys to bring out cars of this quality and let them go full send down the quarter mile. Then when they do, they don't need a bunch of keyboard jockstraps yammering about how they should do this or that. Enjoy the show, from the first pair of cars going down the track to the last, these are all dedicated auto enthusiasts having fun and putting on one hell of a show.

My dad's first Corvette was a '78 Pace Car. I was so in awe the first time I saw the car. Sitting in the passenger seat at 10 years old and looking out over the hood at those huge fenders was something I can only describe as orgasmic!!!!! The car was brand new and the silver leather seats were chrome like. Unfortunately it was just an L48 car. My dad ended up being so disappointed in the performance that it never got driven. In '79 he bought a new 10th Anniversary T/A with the 400/4 speed and it would run circles around the Vette. I was even more in love with it and my dad actually gave it to me for a graduation present in 1986. I traded it in 1987 for a brand new Formula 350 because I thought it was so cool and my girlfriend at the time said I would look really sexy driving it. Wow what a mistake. They both would be gone by 1989. I would love to have that Trans Am back and I would even love to have my dad's old Corvette back. My dad sold it in 1987 with only 4k miles on it.

The Corvette ran what you would expect a 1978 to run but that was terrible running Boss 302. They all came with 4 speeds and he either had no idea how to drive it or something was terrible wrong with it. I had a new 1970 Boss 302 back then and while it wasn’t a rocket it did run 14.20 at 102.00 in the quarter off the showroom with a 3.91 rear gear. Headers and a Ford Muscle Parts LeMans cam and it went 13.50 at 107.00. Changed read gear to a 5.47 and small drag slicks and it ran 12.60 at 109. I was a dumb kid at that time so it wasn’t like I did anything super special just very basic changes. Yes , I drove it on the street and 120 miles round trip to the drag strip with 5.47 gears. Never once was it trailered to the track. Later on I helped a friend build one around 1976 basically the same as mine was but it had been lightened and had suspension work and a roller cam and it ran 11.40 at 123 MPH. He didn’t drive his on the street but it was still pretty basic.

$62 152 is cheap, Cheap, CHEAP! compared to a 'Vette today. I love those Pace Cars But It's hard to believe that the 70 'stang lost to it. Didn't expect that.

Kinda wish ya had 60ft times, as the mustang had a significantly higher trap on 1st round. Which to me indicates it didn't have a clean run, possibly issues with traction? Fun race still, I love these videos trying to guess who will win based on all the info.

In the 80's I street raced against a built Boss with a .600" cam and 5.00 gears. It "sounded" like it revved to 9 grand, but it was no match for my CJ XR7 Cougar with 3.89 gears and a C6. Torque rules. He eventually sold the Boss and built a Cobra Jet-powered Mustang. This was in the SFV just north of Ventura Blvd.

413x398, CANNOT put a .600 camshaft in a stock Boss 302 engine and they will NOT rev to 9000 RPM either. .553 lift is the maximum.

@@sergeantmasson3669 That's what the owner said. And I didn't say it was stock, I said it was built. And they absolutely will rev to 9000 and beyond. Putting parentheses on a word does not make it an iron-clad truth. Stuff some reality in your head, young man.

@@413x398 FALSE. I'm a 50+ years master level factory certified auto/truck tech. Most of those years with Ford. BTW, I bought my all options 1969 Boss 302 Mustang new at TASCA Ford in RI and I still own it. RPM's over 7000, is a waste of time being its peak HP was at 6800.

@@sergeantmasson3669 I was hooked up with Road And Competition Engineering, who used to strip and modify GT350's and Boss 302's on a regular basis for customers running SCCA B and C production. Their engines ran extended between 8000 (289) and 9500 (B302). The engine in the guy's Mustang I mentioned was built by them. I'm glad to hear you still have your Boss. I still have my GT/CS, which had an 8000-rpm 289 in it back in the day. Of the 60 cars I have now, seven are factory Cobra Jets, two have CJ transplants, and I have enough major components to build 7 or 8 more CJ engines. Two FE HR's, four MR's, and countless other engines are stacked high here. My good buddy reads the B302 forum. He describes most of the members there as anal retentive. Sad to see the proof here.

The small block Bosses are fine street engines unlike the Chevy's. Their great heads allow them to use modest cam timing with high lift. Where Chevy had to use a ton of cam timing to make the power. The Chevy solid lifter engine are pretty high strung by production car standards you can hear at idle side by side. Growing up I grew around original examples of the 302's and the Ford was a much better street engine where they were fairly close at the drag strip. No one like us war road racing in the 80's. We had no shortage of big block around me so these guys were all small fish. Rural Virginia and loads of big blocks.
