I have had it for while and had several test rides whilst working on it. Yes show bikes, not much good if they are not ridden, they just become expensive ornaments.
I always liked the natural leaver on these Bikes well I like Royal Enfield interceptor ! I think you should push ahead on the last one made . I love the chrome tanks . Good luck from Tennessee . Will be looking for more videos my Friend .
In my younger days I was fanatical about keeping my bikes like new, if I went for a run and it got wet I would dry it all off and i hated doing it and now I wish i hadn't bothered it took a big chunk of pleasure out of the ownership also when i came to part company i would only be offered the book price.
I'd just give it a wipe with an oily rag and be done with it. The big white object definitely needs a full restoration however, probably needs a new water pump and a set of seals 🦭🦭🦭
if you restore it it will be off the road while its done and you wont to be able to enjoy it , and as you seem more of a rider then its leave as is and clean maintain where necessary ,
I asked Guzzi Dog for a third opinion but she was more interested in your cat . My preference would be to give it a quick wipe over with a diesel rag and call her good . Also any restoration you do to her will devalue her . But I'm a minimalist , so what do I know ? ( And I think you are a bit of a b*gger for stealing a bike from Canada ) . 😂 I tracked down an RE twin that a friend saw , years before , in a shed in northern BC . But when I got there the owner told me he'd swapped it for a used chainsaw ! He reckoned he had a good deal .😮 Over here old Brit REs are like rocking horse sh*t , you don't see 'em very often .
@dungspreader I told the cat and It just stuck it's middle claw up! Any restoration I do seriously devalues my bank account, let alone the bike. Do you still have the Conny? (Just curious) I was just returning what was taken from us in the first place, call it a Factory recall! Where you are, do you see anything very often? you seem to be a bit remote! Are the Injun Bullets any more plentiful in BC? I'l have to look you up if I (ever) make it to Grand Forks.
@@Volcanicbrown1878 . Cats are like that . Yep I still have the Connie , it's in a shed at my sister's in Devon . There's very few old bikes to be had up here in northern BC , although I have managed to find a project or two to keep me busy . Very few REs up here , I know of a couple of 90's Bullets and a 411 Himmy , very high asking prices . Not my cup of 20w50.😂 I did pass through Grand Forks this summer , it's a long way from here . If you are thinking of coming over , let me know if I can help out .
I call then as traveled through time bikes, what wears out gets replaced, what gets broken gets replaced, and mechanical I keep them running, if I use new or old parts that’s what I use. I do not repaint, chrome, just clean and keep them going, they are only like that once. Restore, re paint, re chrome, take your pick. At the end of the day it’s your bike, but as you said it’s an original bike.
Amongst older vehicle specialists there seems to be high regard for 'patina' and original character. I bow to their expertise and suggest that you spruce it up and keep this historic bike original.
@daviddavies5347 Well, I don't think there are plenty out there to restore! Enfield only made 1200 of them and just about all of them were exported to the US and Canada, there are only a handful over here.
You could restore some bits & csn some original.I personally would give it a good clean & over haul parts forks, brakes etc.Getting the rims done be a good idea & give tank a good polish & polish frame etc.
@ruahinesrider I have done the forks, brakes, clutch etc, It's now very mechanically sound. The rims clean up good too. I don't think they are bad enough to justify re chroming them.
@Volcanicbrown1878 Sweet just give em good clean & ride it.Blokes who restore bikes are usually to scared to ride them unless it's the perfect day, worried about getting them wet or in NZ 🇳🇿on hot day tar on bike 🏍 etc.Ride em enjoy em while you can.
@@ruahinesrider I got a couple of mates that have bikes they bought in the 70's. They rode them everywhere. Both have now restored those bikes and both of them have them inside their houses, they are relegated to just shiny static things to ooh and ahh at.
G’day VB, a detail clean up of the Mark 2 in my opinion would bring out its original patina.. perfect . It’s a beautiful bike under that dust.. Cheers Phil 🇦🇺
You said it yourself. "There're only original once." Give it a proper cleaning, make the mechanical improvements it needs to remain whole and enjoy. Great collection. Cheers.
Hello Volcanic Brown. Ah the gods play with us - you being the Royal Enfield God here. Absolutely not you should restore it, there's nothing to restore and its only new once. Please find something else to restore. Would you like to send it back to Montreal? Always enjoy our videos, thanks. 😊
@camillebourbonnais1925 I'm just a normal fella, nothing godly about me! Send it back? It cost a kings ransom to get it shipped over here!...I won't restore it either!!
Hmmm. Those rare Interceptor are so perfect with their ergonomics it's a shame to change anything.I can sure see keeping it looking like a warhorse though.Thats personality!
If I was going to ride it like it's a real bike then I would take steps to halt any corrosion maybe some sympathetic touch up paint and then give it a good polish. Too many, better then new , bikes around at dry bike nights that only get ridden 100 miles per year. P.S. maybe invest in some dust covers.
I'm just going to add the all the other sensible voices. What is there to restore? Everything is there, it all works, there's some dirt but nothing is full of rust holes. Just keep it as it is, ride it and enjoy it.
Love to see a nice patina on a bike. Not a filthy rust bucket (though I like those too), but the accumulated scuffs, knocks and tarnishing that represents years of use.
I'm with everyone else. Clean it, look after it and ride it. Restoring a bike robs it of it's past and causes more headaches than it's worth. I have made that mistake in the past.
If it were mine I would just keep it in good fettle & enjoy riding it, you could restore it a hundred times & it would look exactly the same. I don't like restored bikes either !
@@Volcanicbrown1878 yes, I bet . . . The series two seems very rare - I've inly seen one in the metal - its a regular visitor to the Ace . . . I was chatting with the rider who has had the oil feed mod you mentioned . . . Great bikes - thanks for uploading . .
You should do what ever feels right, of course. Me, personally, don't think nice looking restored and with upgraded bits bikes are a bad thing. I like my bikes to look nice.
@@Volcanicbrown1878 I was chief maintenance/repair engineer at few huge factories over the years and i'm use to repair and upgrade old equipment. The Stuff needs to work better then new.. You can say i'm professionally distorted
@williamnethercott4364 My thoughts are that it is not a new bike so it shouldn't look new! It's got nearly 55.years behind it and I think it should just look tidy and presentable.
@@Volcanicbrown1878 It’s a D1 with the Wipac light switch operated by cable. The “switch” looks like an advance/retard lever and I still try to advance the engine by switching on the lights! 🤣
If you restored it would you want to get it dirty ! It's all very well having a 'Garage Queen' or perhaps i should say 'Barn Queen' in your case🤭 but why not just throw some duck oil over it to keep the rust at bay for now & carry on using it before winter sets in as you have only just got it running tiptop.
@ianwoollard9008 My brother did that with a BSA A7 Shooting star, he threw thousands at it, then wouldn't even test ride it! He then sold it for less than what it cost him to do. All for someone else's benefit!
@@Volcanicbrown1878 OMG. There is Two of you ? 🙂 Has Big Bruv or Little Bruv got a barn full of R/E's too ? I am not one for cleaning them, i only want to ride the damn things. I do regular oil & filter changes though. More important than anything wouldn't you agree ? On my Suzuki, i am on the same set of plugs that came with the bike in 2005. They have done 27,00 ish. I will change them at 30k whether they need it or not.
@@ianwoollard9008 No, only one of me now. Servicing and maintenance are the keys to long bike life, the cosmetics are neither here nor there. You have got good mileage out of a set of plugs!
