Probably the one night in history when Julie Andrews, Babs Streisand, Lauren Bacall, Katherine Hepburn, Lynn Fontanne, Shirley MacLaine and Maggie Smith were on the same stage.

Thanks MissPooch for posting. Fascinating to see so many old stars - and probably the only place on the internet you can see Katherine Hepburn perform on stage. And some plays do have a long life - a new production of BORSTAL BOY is playing now in Dublin.

Incredible show - James Stewart, Katherine Hepburn, Betty Bacall, Babs Streisand, Cary Grant, George C. Scott - Noel Coward, many others. This is why RU-vid was really invented so future generations can relive history.

Kate Hepburn is always playing Kate Hepburn she's wonderful but she's always playing characters like herself strong independent women aristocrats her family was filthy rich old money and she is even a descendent of the queen that she so brilliantly portrayed in the lion in winter it's just like Elizabeth Taylor was always great at playing women that were sexually promiscuous and I loved Liz a lot of these people were playing themselves they were really stars not actors
@TheLibrarianMarian

@@johnfulton4061 While true, I don't think it's a problem for actors to play themselves so long as they remain emotive, captivating, and entertaining, which Katharine Hepburn always was.

@TheLibrarianMarian she was all the things you said and more but I'm still more impressed with the actors that can play characters that are completely different from who they really are I never realized just how gifted Lucille Ball was until the first time I saw her on a talk show she was not LUCY

Broadway was much more in the public taste back in the 50s, 60s and early 70s then since. Broadway songs would be covered by pop stars and become hits (“Send in the Clowns”), or quickly become standards (“We Need A Little Christmas”). I think “One Night in Bangkok” in the early 80s was the last big pop hit that spun out from a Broadway show, though Whitney Houston and her mom Cissy did a duet of “I Know Him So Well” on her debut album in the early mid 80s.

I’m sorry but KH had zero acting range. She is perennially the New England spinster. Now Bette Davis had range, she could play tempestuous southern belle (Jezebelle), repressed old maid (Now Voyager, and The Old Maid),scheming matriarch (The Little Foxes), middle age frump (Catered Affair), and weary, fear of aging actress (All About Eve). And KH refused to pose with Bette , what a snob.
@TruthHoles
@TruthHoles Год назад
I'm so glad to find someone who shares my opinion. Katharine Hepburn played one role in her entire career: herself. You are so right about Bette Davis. Her range was extraordinary. The fact that the AFI named Hepburn the greatest actress, with Davis at number two, is ludicrous.
@johnfulton4061
@johnfulton4061 Год назад
I completely agree with you I'll take Davis over Hepburn but if we really want to talk about range let's talk about Stanwyck westerns film noirs comedies she could play wealthy socialites poor women and for me she played it from the heart she also had a pretty successful TV career I adore Davis but she was great at playing women you hate she had no equal in that category the public loved hating her she was also great in the examples you gave as well butnmy queen is Miss Barbara Stanwyck
