1970 Watkins Glen Trans Am

The Roaring Season

I love this cool original highlights film of the 1970 Watkins Glen Trans-Am. That the manufacturers were spending millions of dollars (in 1970 money) on this series is evident, and of particular interest is the intense rivalry between Mark Donohue and Parnelli Jones. This race is notable for the factory Camaro team, Chaparral Cars, taking the first and only Trans-Am victory for the second-gen model in the original 1966-1972 era. Thanks to the SVRA for uncovering and sharing this gem.

Can't believe I found this! This was the first road race I ever went to...I was 14 at the time and it just blew me away! The drivers and cars were so awesome...except for Dad the rest of the family was bored to tears, but I'll never forget this one...especially Jones making passes on the grass right in front of us!

The only aerodynamics these cars got what are go fast lines in swooping hips flat front they just pushed through the wind I lived five blocks away from AMC they painted everything red white and blue gremlin hornet Marlin Pacer matador rebel maybe even ambassador no alliance tho those just couldn't be helped what do you want fast if you dropped them out of an airplane.. this is racing's finest hour today's racing sucks compared to this cuz this is freaking crazy and that's how we liked it.
