I used to go adult beaver club in the beachcomber bar😂😂I loved Butlins back then we used to go once a year for a week I still think about those holidays now I'm 52 and both my parents sadly have passed on. 😢
Tonight I’m in a hotel room in Skegness, reminiscing about my 1970s holidays at Butlins. 1975 Skegness, 1976 Minehead. It was a simpler world. Great times!
We used to alternate between Skegness and Minehead, except for one year when we went to Pwyhelli. Best days ever. It is so different now, unrecocnisable.
I stayed here as a child in the 70s, this film is jogging old memories. I recall the chairlifts passed over open fields, as the film unfolds the memories are brought back, people seemed more active then, they look slimmer than these days, unless its just the film, but i feel we as a society don't exercise as much as we used to. Thanks for posting this valuable footage
I can remember being at Filey Butlins in 1972 with my mum and dad. There used to be a rollercoaster ride called the fast mouse. It was marvellous, I was 5 years old. There used to be indoor wrestling as well, it was a right laugh. Happy times indeed. So sad it’s no longer there, but I’m glad my mum and dad took me, it was like going to Disneyland
I worked at Clacton camp 1969, and 1970 on security. It sure brings a lump to my throat when all the great memories come flooding back. All in all I worked at Filey camp 1967 & 68 and 69 and 70 at Clacton with an odd Christmas at Minehead. A fantastic time but I also have some regrets. Happy days.
I remember Bognor in 1964. I was 10 years old and spent evenings watching cover bands in the ballroom doing Hollies, Johnny Kidd and Freddie and the dreamers numbers.
Worked in barry island 1972 met my husband (chippy) had a great time been married now for 46 years they were the days I was a nursery nurse he was a waiter 👩❤️💋👩
this was the holidays I grew up with Butlins Clacton-on-Sea in the 70's - Gaiety theatre and the wild west saloon and the train going around the camp, chalets, 7am music through the tannoy speakers, soldiers on the building where the catering building were, helter skelter with the brown door mats penny machines - loved it every year.
you got to love this video, i remember back in the 70s i was born in 1970, making a pair of these type of skates it was so much fun as a kid back in those days, i feel for the children of now and the future, to many interfering PC idiots nower day, i'm now a foster carer for my ex's children and wow what they have to lose due to these interfering busybodies is awful i wish i could give them a real life but i cant due to stupid PC people interfering
People ate at set times and didn't constantly have kebabs, fried chicken or burgers on their mind. Most of the activities where more physical and less restricted regarding health and safety, therefore it was more encouraging and easier to participate resulting with a more refined physique.
I went there in 1980, 8 years old. Thought it was the best. I’d never been on holiday. Mum bought a whole tray of pot noodles for the 5 days we were there!! I thought the unlimited fairground rides were too good to be true!! No fatties in this clip.....go there now and most will be waddling around, eating chips. What happened to people?
1975 when fat girls were the exception rather than the rule, I thought that maybe I had just imagined it but this film proves my memory wasn't playing tricks. I worked at Butlins Minehead in 1975 they certainly got there moneys worth out of me serving 20 people 2 sittings 3 times a day in the canteen, no wonder we were all as slim as a reed lol.
