In 1971, on Christmas Day, my mom was having labor pains. We were living in Reno Nevada fourteen miles outside of town and we were in the middle of the worst snowstorm in 25 years with 24 inches of wet snow burying the roadways. Our only car had bald tires and insufficient ground clearance to make it so my dad borrowed a neighbors Blazer with snow tires, thinking that it was a 4 wheel drive (it wasn’t!) and he somehow made it through the snow to the main highway and joined a caravan of cars being led by the State Patrol. My mom got to the hospital safely and delivered my little sister 10 hours later. When my dad found out later that he was driving just a 2 wheel drive with snow tires, he just about fainted.

Awesome story I enjoyed this one.. it’s amazing what you can do when you need to get things done, like if he knew it was two wheel drive I bet he wouldn’t even tried but thinking it was it’s like the placebo effect

Compared to most of today's SUVs - this is a true fully framed truck, I've rescued my Dad's 4WD Toyota with it and mine is a 2WD (K/5 4 speed).

Those were really popular. As you can see the interior was very utilitarian which made them popular as oil field and construction company cars. Just take it to the car wash and hose down the seats and floor mats.

Yeah, it looks super cool with the top off.. also noticed that chevy offered 3 truck sizes that year the blazer then C/K truck and the Suburban I guess technically four if you count the El Camino.. Did you get the song

One of the most popular features is that this has a removable hard top. No widow frame around the doors.

I had a 69 C20 passed down from my dad. Got to keep it if I could get it running after sitting for years. After some salvage yard upgrades I used it for another 15 years till the rust just was too far gone. I wish I’d at least held onto the vin tag.

Excellent video, If you want to find an oddity look for I believe it was in 1975 both GMC and Chevrolet had a bed camper option the Chevrolet again it's been a long time since I seen one, it was called the Chevrolet k5 casa grande and in place of the back seat and cargo area was a removable bed camper, GM back in the 70s was trying to get into RVs to make extra money, but look for one of these oddities and you will be amazed

I've always thought these were tough and cool looking trucks! I think the convertible version is unique and cool! I know I rode in the pickup truck versions of these when I was a kid but never the suburban or Blazer. Did a lot of driving in the '80s generation of the small Blazer and s10s though. Song has got me stumped again 🤔 how was googling some and I was going to guess Rod Stewart, or Lee Michaels "Do you Know What I Mean"5

The cool thing about all the k5 blazer up to 1975 is they are all convertibles Good guess on the song I had to make it that sort otherwise it would have gotten copyright someone got it was the grass roots temptation eyes

You don't need a super charger or turbo charger to have a Vacuum gauge,... by the numbers, it tells engine condition(s) & fuel economy , even if you have a clogged muffled - "banana in the tail pipe". I had a Stewart Warner model and changed to an Auto meter to match the other gauges - but this gauge is the perfect compliment (or even necessary) for any auto enthusiast.

Someone asked about SUV. The first relevant usage of the term SUV was in advertising brochures for the full-sized 1974 Jeep Cherokee (SJ), which used the wording "sport(s) utility vehicle" as a description for the vehicle.

Just so you know a K5 was always a 4X4. A C5 blazer was 2wd.
@What.its.like.
@What.its.like. Год назад
That would make total sense thank you so much for that clarification because it was based off of the C/K series truck k5 is four-wheel-drive sorry it was really confusing with how the specs laid everything out I wish that every source said the same thing a lot of the dimensions were different site to site

@@What.its.like. Sport Utility Vehicle, isn’t it? Most SUVS nowadays don’t look so ugly. They look like oversized station wagons. I remember when kids said they would never have a station wagon back in the 60s cause station wagons weren’t cool, but many of those people are now driving SUVS or minivans! 🤔😆

@@What.its.like. Seems to me the auto industry had an obsession with vinyl and stuff like that in the 70s-80s. “Luxury “ seemed synonymous with vinyl roofs, vinyl upholstery, white wall tires, etc, Not anymore thank goodness. And who can forget the spare tires mounted on the rear bumper? 😕🤮. Some of your videos showing cars from that era such as the Studebaker, Packard, and others with huge rear bumpers and spare tires mounted on them made me wanna gag.
