These really are pretty impressive. If you buy one and regular gas has been used you can soak the wick in denatured alcohol to soften it back up and remove the fuel varnish, they don't work when they are hard and gummed up. And you can prime the head a number of times with the same alcohol, (pour some on OUTSIDE) and light it and let the impurities burn off. Mine went from greyish black to white on my 511a. and now will stay lit and is very useful. As a second side note 5000btu is the same as a 1500w electric heater, so a very reasonable amount of heat.

When the power goes out in winter, you'll pay anything for a nice, cheap, reliable heater. I have 4 coleman heaters.😁

White gas isn’t cheap ! Are you using unleaded gas in it ?
@pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN
@pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN Год назад
@@nicarob4257 That's the reason why I ended up getting two indoor paraffin heaters. Purchasing Coleman fuel in the UK is difficult and expensive. Paraffin isn't so cheap either but is still cheaper than Coleman fuel and so much easier to find. It's a nice little heater if you live in an area where the proper fuel is reasonably priced and easy to obtain, although once opened, apparently the fuel degrades rather quickly nicarob.

Are y'all talking about parrifin oil used in oil lamps? I can use parrifin oil in my Coleman catalyst heater?
@pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN
@pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN Год назад
@@toniafolven A Coleman catalytic heater uses a form of petroleum (Naphtha) paraffin is not the same thing and will probably clog and not burn properly in such a heater.

The vid may be random as you say, but it's exactly what I was looking for. I just picked one of these up in near mint condition for 10 bucks, when I saw that 70's design I knew I had to have it, but not what I had. Thank you for the detailed walkthrough. I'm so excited to try it out.

That warning was placed on the cap in the days of leaded gasoline. Even now it is best to use ethanol free unleaded, or remove the ethanol yourself, it attracts water - not good for the wicking.

Has anyone here used the catalyst from one of these on top of a kerosene heater in order to burn off any excess fumes? It surprises me there isn’t something like this on the market.

I put mine between my feet in my floorboard with an improvised wool blanket tent over my steering wheel and back of my seat. Lasts two nights for 75cents worth of gas and no chance of fire. Accidentally dropped a napkin on top with the cover off once and although a little brown at the edges did not even come close to catching on fire. Sleep like a baby . SAFE and the ONLY way to go. Trust me. I've tried all of these lil tricks.

Could this technology to be used when converting heat to electricity as a heat source? Since it seems to have good fuel efficiency does it mean with this it is possible to produce cheap energy?
@J_Trask
@J_Trask Год назад
The closest thing I can think to what you’re asking is a stove fan. A stove fan converts thermal energy to electricity in such a way that it is able to power the fan to circulate the heated air.
