In 1971 Hurricane Beth brought torrential rains that caused severe flooding in downtown Dartmouth. This is some amateur video of that event.

I remember it well, I remember my friend Debbie and I walking in it. We used to dive off that little wooden bridge in between the canoe clubs

I remember me and my brother in Porter's lake, rowing in a small wooden boat. We had to lay down in the boat to get under the middle Porter's lake bridge. We just used the beams and braces to pull the boat along till we got all the way under !!!

Very beginning you can see Dartmouth curling club in the background with the current day bob's/blue bell taxi building directly to the right in the mid-ground. Neat

Hi Doug, are you able to help me track down the audio for this video? Or, given it was taken in 1971 perhaps no audio was even recorded? Thanks Oscar

it was probably taken with a Super 8 motion picture camera. Analog consumer tech of that era.

Just below Sullivan’s Pond, Dartmouth. After this event Sawmill Creek was buried in a pipe from Sullivan’s Pond to the harbour. Two years ago it was partially daylighted.
