1971 Dodge Challenger R/T 426 HEMI Muscle Car Of The Week Video Episode #136
The 426 Hemi is one of the most celebrated Muscle Car engines, and this triple-black 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T from The Brothers Collection is an instant party at the turn of the key. Only 71 people chose to slide their paychecks across the Dodge dealer's desk in exchange for a Hemi-powered '71 Charger R/T, and this particular car is nearly exactly how it was back in '71.

Who ever ordered this car knew exactly what he wanted and knew exactly how to give a car a timeless look. This is probably my favorite challenger

There's a spider web on the side mirror at 3:30. Must've been the first time in months that Challenger saw the light of day.

Ik this comment is old as hell, but spiders build webs super fast, I don't daily my dart so sometimes it sits for a week or two ( I take it out as much as I can, it's a project car) but in the shop it gets dirty as hell and a few webs

So far this is the 5th 1971 Hemi Challenger I've seen on the web or in real life. The two I've seen are the Plum Crazy one that was in the Dream Car Giveaway and a Lemon Twist one that was for sale at Carlisle in 2014. Then the two on here and the 5th being the Mr. Norm red Challenger (which I have a signed diecast replica of)

Walter Joy Hey Walter, do you have any more information on the Plum 71 giveaway Challenger? My 71 Hemi Challenger was plum and I lost track of it. I still have the fender tag from it. Adeeponion@gmail.com By the way, it was a Mr.Norms car too.

Next to the word "sinister" in the dictionary is a picture of this car. One would expect a villain in a Stephen King novel to be driving it.

He didn't mention the lack of the 4 chrome exhaust tips that should be poking out from the cut-outs of the rear valence panel, they were standard on the Challenger R/T no matter what engine you got. Except . . . in a California delivered car which this must be. California cars had simple turn down pipes (no chrome) under the rear valence panel.

For all the talk about the black stripes, the black bumper, the black spoiler, the fender tag shows this was a stripe delete car and the bumper and spoiler were added later in its life.

I love Challengers. But the 1970 Dodge Challenger is king. When I was 15 years old I worked all summer in 1978 to buy my sisters car. It was an N code 1970 Dodge Challenger. It was go mango orange with a vinyl top. It was perfect. I was the worst thing that happened to that car. I was a kid and took off everything that was stock. It was my first car. I paid her $800. I don't remember what happened to all those parts I took off. I had that car all through high school then I sold it for $1500. I never thought my challenger would become so iconic. If I could only go back! Mopar or No Car.

The Hemi Challengers had way more than 425 horse. Chrysler said it had only 425h. p. for insurance reasons.

Nice car! Those side stripes are magic. What color are the stripes when it does not reflect light? They seemed black in the video. Not so sure until you see it person. Think Kevin could answer this one! Kevin? Pete :") P.S. Got it. He does say it's satin black!

There's been a few cars on your videos where the clock isn't functiong, such as this one. Is that common on these cars? Is it hard to find the internals for these clocks, to get 'em up n' running again? Thanks, Steve

What for an option?? "Black top painted front bumper option" - never exist. Only the M-coded M71 only front elastomeric or M73 front&rear elastomeric bumpers. This car has no N96 shaker code and the V68 code (delete side stripes). The car is very cool, but not perfect as on fender tag or broadcast sheet.

Ugliest car built by Chrysler that year, but man, it goes like stink! 'Cuda's styling was much more elegant, even though the pentastar's stylists thought the Dodge was more civilized looking. Triple black IS the best color to hide all the crease, too. Notice all the typical mismatched panels and chrome? Typical Chrysler "quality" of the period...just sayin'
@constructivecritique4049
@constructivecritique4049 8 лет назад
Really? You think that was the ugliest car MOPAR put out for that model year? Wow. I 'bout fell outta my chair with that comment. BUT, I do agree that the 'Cuda is more pleasing to the eye. But, that doesn't mean I'd drive this car into my local river, that's for damn sure. Lol.
@alanhardman2447
@alanhardman2447 8 лет назад
My observations over the years was that Plymouth and Dodge took turns at building the better-looking versions of the various platforms. For example, the Demon, to me, was a lot better looking car than the Duster, which was so bland as to make a person pity it for homeliness. Only a heavy tape stripe package could salvage that one! I realize that styling is in the eye of the beholder, but time usually sorts it all out. Not many people dislike the 1966 427 Cobra, for instance.
@alanhardman2447
@alanhardman2447 8 лет назад
Oh, yeah, one more thing - the best sounding small-block I've ever heard was a 1971 Demon with a 340! While stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona in 1976, I watched this incredible Demon launch 4 times at the local drag strip before being eliminated. I was so impressed that I went back to the pits to talk to the owner. He was launching at 9,300 rpm(!) and shifting a 9,500 - 10,000. Said he had to replace the cam about every third race. Never saw it again. I got transfered the next spring.
@constructivecritique4049
@constructivecritique4049 8 лет назад
Oh, man. I think the Demon is one of the most-underrated cars of that era. Especially in the looks department. In fact, an ultra-nice resto-modded Demon would be one of my top picks, as far a MOPAR goes. And, launching at 9,300 rpm, and shifting 9,500 - 10,000 rpm? One word.... WOW. Then again, I don't claim to be a know-it-all..... Most people automatically go with the Hemi as their favorite motor. I much prefer all the higher-strung, smaller-displacement motors (DZ302, 340 Wedge, Boss 302) that like those rpms. I've got a good friend that's owned an AAR 'Cuda since I was in high school, back in the 80's. And, that's been one of my favorite motors since. I'd eventually like to own another muscle car. As I was the proud owner in high school, of a stock (minus the Hooker Headers & a set of Cragers) 389 tri-powered '66 GTO Convertable, that I paid for by racing motocross, delivering pizza/newspapers, through junior high & high school. And, to think that I sold that car over a damn woman, while in college......
@hmackprotection1
@hmackprotection1 8 лет назад
What? It was actually the 2nd Coolest/best looking car Chrysler made in 71 behind the 71 Cuda..the ugliest was the 71-74 chargers. Chrysler completely ruined that body. The 70-74 challengers, & Cuda's were flat out gorgeous
