Those TX starfires were so bad ass looking. I’ll never forget as a boy when a friend of my Dads drove up with one of those with a 3 cyl and loud. I was forever a Polaris fan even though my Dad was a cat guy. He then bought one tx starfire 294 twin for my older brother. It was the talk of the town and neighbor scorpion dealer came over to look at it. Wow those were the cool memories. Now you could spend 25000 on a new one and no one would give a damn.
Nice to see a Rupp Magnum in there. Also those TNT's ran strong back then. All those 3/4 helmets. For those of you that think these light little machines were not fast, think again. No fancy front or rear suspensions and in some cases a high center of gravity. Those drivers had their hands full. Fun to watch again. Thanks
Brings back to my first year racing at 12 years old on my Brother's 1971 399 EXT. Many years later racing El Tigre' and Invaders. Dad being a Cat, Kawasaki, Yamaha and John Deere dealer.
My grandfather road to that race from wiben up tekoa mountain and to the races! glad you shared the video!!! i remember him telling me about it, wish i was there
Hey Chris ! Thanks for posting this ! Soooo COOL ! I can remember grooming the track in the cab of the New Four wheel drive Oliver with John Granger driving and me and Kevin Porter on board driving thru the deep snow to get there with Chuck Porter alongside on the bubblehead Black Rat Scorpion, And i remember walking there that day with my Dad and at some point asking to go home because it was so COLD ! I seem to remember that Jeff and or Benny did real well [ Hillbillies versus the "Factory "guys ! ] I did spot Benny and Ben there and some others, you are probably too young to remember i 'm guessing.............................wb Pretty impressive how quick some of them are !
Looking at those old boxes you would never expect they would go so fast tell you realise the hade 550s and 800cc sleds back then the look to go good in shalow snow
that must have been in the western part of the state near the Berkshires I spent my whole life even now in the northshore area of mass and never knew they had snowmobile races we had snowmobiles but we are closer to the ocean and maine and newhapmshire is where we went
something very interesting at 8:54, the '71 #1704 triple blizzard has a front mounted engine as you can see the cylinders in the hood opening. Must have modded the drivetrain and steering to stuff that up front?!
+cdem72 Thats definitely a production racer....probably a 776 Triple......mounted right where the factory put it , many of the sleds had their aircooled heads sticking out of their race models. so cool ! ...........wb
+cdem72 ik the guy that had the sled. it is the first front mounted skidoo made by the black family here in mass. mass vintage club has pics of it at the next snow expo at the big e
+cdem72 i'm sorry, my bad, that engine placement does seem to be very forward, pretty early example of high quality re-engineering ! I wonder if that machine or any of them are still around and /or functional............wb
+Willard Brown i have no clue, he dominated allot of places from what iv heard, allot of times the skidoo riders would put him "out of commission" by slamming into the side pipes lol he sold it i have no clue were it is now... wish it was in my garage thats for shur lol
