This model is the second version of the "Touring International", the first is the model 101 and that set was introduced in 1970. This set, and the others in the series, are fairly common in Europe, but are rare here in the USA. I also have a Touring Studio model 104, which I think is the best looking model in the series. The video of that set can be found here: • ITT Schaub-Lorenz Tour... (after watching that video again, I realized I made the same comment about the name back then, oops)

ITT Schaub-Lorenz made some great dials. Take a look at my touring 104 if you like this one: ITT Schaub-Lorenz Touring Studio model 104 (made in Germany circa 1974)

+Vintage Electronics Geek The Germans made excellent radios in their day.

Very interesting radio review, love the dial, lights up very well too. Wish I could repair electronics like you. Thanks for the review.

Nice set, Matt. Really a clean looking design. I like that wrap around tuning dial.

Thanks, I like the look of this set too! Speaking of clean, this set could really use a cleaning and maybe some touch up paint, I probably should have done that before filming the video, oh well.

Wow Another cool radio. I have a Lorenz Isar. It's a huge two Tube. Someone messed with it and left parts out or unhooked. I have it shelved for the time being. That radio of yours sounds great. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks! I looked up that Lorenz Isar, what a strange set... I have never seen a radio with a solid wood case that has just two tubes. Perhaps some of the people on ARF can help you get it working again.

50sTransistorRadios Thank you for the tip. Yes it's a strange radio indeed. When I pulled the back off and counted the tubes I was like what :) I found a few thing's on a few sites but I haven't tried ARF yet. Thank you again.

Thanks! ITT made some very good products, and they sold them for less than what Grundig and others were charging.

There are very very good radios. The sound is mindblowing. On AC power, they output 5 or 6w which is unheard of on portable radios. I have several models (got one in a flea market for 4€). I still have to replace some capacitors and realign them (lack of sensitivity, but could also be due to bad caps).

I agree that these are very good radios, with great sound, and plenty of it. Replacing the capacitors usually does improve the sound at least somewhat, and the capacitor that couples the audio to the AF amp can go bad, causing a loss of volume on quieter stations.

Very nice, these are a sought after and correspondingly pricey set over here (that I don't have) so I'm suitably jealous. The dial case and buttons look in great condition compared to the sides. Hmmm, I might have the odd German transistor set around here.... :) Regards - Andrew

Thanks, perhaps not too many of them made it over to the UK either, although they seem to only fetch $30-$40 on the German eBay. The vinyl covering shrunk and pulled loose in the corners and then the loose ends got chewed up. I trimmed the rough edges of the vinyl and glued down the loose edges, but there were pieces of vinyl missing unfortunately.

Any place you can find either a European or North American version of the Loewe Opta 2841 W radio? One of the best radios made!

+Rene Auvray It does look pretty nice, but if I do pick up another large tube set, I plan to go for one with FM stereo.

I am not sure exactly, but it's between 300 and 400.

That is a Proper Radio! I've been looking for one of those to add to my small collection of Transistor radios for ages. But as has been mentioned already they command big prices over here in the UK. To get one in decent condition you're looking at in excess of £200, if you are lucky. Not sure what that is in USD probably $300 plus. One of those is definitely on my wish list along with a good Tandberg a Graetz and a Telefunken Bajazzo... Another highly prized make of vintage radio over here is Bang and Olufsen. Ah well, I'll keep dreaming lol.. Thanks for the post.

I would try posting a WTB for repair services here: www.antiqueradios.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=15 There are several people on ARF who do repairs from time to time.

An early “BoomBox” complete with lights‼️ All you need to do is get the lights to strobe🙂. Seriously, nice set. I’ve seen a few ITT pocket radios, but never thought much of them. Don’t know anything about the company, always passed them off as a low rent. 📻👍🙂‼️

The lights do actually strobe a bit to the music when it is playing loud, due to the heavy load the amplifier puts on the power supply.
