We loved our 74 164E with manual and o/d. That car could move for its day. I don't believe the engine was as durable as the 144 but served us well. Ate up the long distance miles❤.
Well done that man. It the film it looks quite remarkable, lucky you. You have a lovely car and cherish it for what it is - A SURVIVOR! Yesterday I saw the very same model car here in Sydney in white. It looked lovely in the traffic.
I had this exact model and color in the late 80s, it wasn't a hotrod but it was a great, reliable car. After a body and paint job, I had notes left on it often from folks wanting to buy it. Some one finally offered me a ridiculous amount and I let it go. Regrets.
The build quality on these were better than the 200. The engines were dead simple to work on, galvanized floor pans inner wings . And good thickness metal. Not saying later cars were bad these were good. I worked on a few. My dad had the 145 deluxe estate.
Like you, someone in an adjacent street to mine had an orange Volvo 244 DL with black interior, P reg, late Seventies, I thought it was a fine looking car.
Nice machine, I've always liked old volvos but never owned one. Always had old mercedes, only two and a Peugeot 504ti. Old volvos getting hard to find in Australia, but maybe one day
They do look so much better than the 240. You could se the original beautiful design beeing corrupted over time - eventually turning into a turd like the 240. Yes I'm a Swede born in 1973 - at the time I thought the 140 was embarrassing because it was oldand the 240 was the car I wanted my parents to have 😂
Fantastic video... I have a gorgeous '72 144 automatic in #109 ocean green. It was originally an Edinburgh car but it's been registered in Ireland since 2000. I see you have the obligatory BW35 oil stain where you park... I have one on my garage floor too. I wish mine still had white wall tires... They do look great with them.
am an mercedes diesel person but if i would get an petrol or an lpg car it is an rearwheel drive volvo for me , i had an 740 with 700000 km with no problem then i wrecked it.
Good to see this old Volvo from the early seventies. My Mother had one (DLY 982J) and we were royally driven to school in it. On the day my sister was born, she was driven home in it, and some years later learned to drive in it!
The last good Volvo. But unfortunately Volvo design suffers since 70s from degenerative "improvements". This one inherited a lot of quality from 60s. So, these car really worthy to ride on it to grocery even today!😊
Lovely car. I'm envious. Great car history, almost as daft here; everything I've learned/researched goes out of the window when in the presence of something I like...
My grandfather had the 140 in the orange. It was very vibrant to say the least. Then he ended up with a green 244DL in '76 which I happily inherited many years later. I still want to find another one.
@@michaelj7069 It's strange how the colours didn't really fit in with the brand's staid image. I think the previous generation of Amazons were mostly quite subdued colours so maybe they were trying to modernise their image.
Great story! I saw this car at Glamis Extravaganza last month and saw online that it made the very long trip to the Festival of the Unexceptional recently … huge respect! 👍
Cool car! I had forgotten that Volvos (Volvoes??) ever looked like that; the black plastic grille with the chrome surround must have only been used for a couple of years. The carburetor and air cleaner look like something from the 1930s. Best of luck with it. PS: Did you ever have to feed 2 parking meters for the Caprice wagon? It must have cost somebody a mint to bring it over there and adapt it to UK regulations.
Great cars. Bit heavy on gas and the nerves on the motorways these days. I'm conflicted because I love them but having owned several and getting something more modern ( V70 '99) I'm not sure. The kids loved the 240 GLT we had and that's the one they all hanker after now they're grown up. Deffo a practical classic simply because they're so well built and easy to work on. Great vid cheers mate.
😍😍 Beautiful pristine Volvo! I learned to drive in Pennsylvania,USA in a yellow 1973 4 speed manual Volvo 145 estate/station wagon in 1983,when I was 16.
Lovely car, we had Gold ones, a J reg and a K reg when I was a kid, hate to think what their mpg was when they towed our caravan. Then we moved onto 244s and 245s. Would love to drive one some day.
My dad had a 145 (ie 5 door estate) in light green. Even as a small child I thought it was an odd colour. Many years later, in the 90s I think, I saw a saloon in the same colour and in excellent condition. The registration number was one digit less than my dad's!
