Just awesome! There is nothing like the old days of NASCAR when the cars were fast and the driver's were pros.

I love Bud Lindemann and his voice! God bless him and may he rest in peace. He got cancer and passed in the early 80's. Heard he was from Michigan like the Keselowskis but he talks like he was a good Ole boy from the south like Andy Griffith.

This was the last season for the great Holman Moody team. Bobby Allison had a terrific year in the 12 Mercury winning several races, said it was the most fun he ever had in a season. He took the Coke sponsorship (and the number 12) with him to Junior Johnson's Chevy team the next year and narrowly lost the championship to Petty. Allison had a very good year in '73 with Johnson, but the two of them never really got along and that was their only season together. That opened the door for Cale to join Johnson in '74 and they won a bunch of races and 3 championships before Cale left after the '80 season

@WR German Thanks! I didn't know he tried to work a deal with Moody in '73. Bobby lost several seasons there in the mid 70s when he could have won a bunch of races. Did pretty well again when he finally got with Bud Moore in '78

@WR German l didn't know that either, but it's not surprising considering how professional Penske has always been

I saw a video where Junior Johnson believed that if he and Allison could have gotten along that they would have won more Championships than Petty (He said “hands down”.Did Moody drop out because Ford no longer wanted to pay the tab for Ford Racing in NASCAR?

Restrictor plates are for sissies. NASCAR killing all the fun. All teams cheated some what back in the day. They would find a way to skirt the rules a bit here and there. Made things more interesting. You can't do what they did, today. It's just not anywhere near as entertaining.

I believe they dumped as much fuel on the ground as they put in the tank!

The #71 car is the K&K insurance DODGE not a Plymouth!

The Plymouth and Dodges had an option Hemi with smaller carburetor, or wedge with a bigger carburetor, they gambled and went with the wedge engine. 426 wedge or 426 Hemi. My memory may be a little off but not by much. When they ran the wedge they painted it red, kind of a Industrial red. I don't no of too many people to talk to about this, sadly most have passed away😢 France senior was changing the engine rules literally weekly to get a even field of manufacturers!😂 har har har on that one! Reminiscing for this old man is better than sex!😂

Can you believe Manor Troy's back racing this soon after his Daytona debacle? I was left with the impression that he would be mending for months! If you'll pull up 71 Daytona 500 you'll see what I mean. That's one whale of a crash, even in modern times, it rates as one of the meanest single car crashes, I've never seen one that spectacular😮! Side note, back in the day you could sit in the grandstands, look down and see your driver or any driver for that matter, and see them behind the wheel! The windshields weren't tinted, and you could see down in the cockpit and see clear as day!🎉🎉

396 wins and 24 Manufacturers Cup championships later, yeah I'd say the Monte Carlo made for a good racer for Chevy!

The beginning of NASCAR kissing GM's ass and boring racing .

The 3 fastest cars - Chargin' Charlie, Bobby and Donnie Allison - all had 427 CID engines. Both the Chevy and Ford 427s had wedge heads - but a much bigger plate - hence the kicking they gave the Dodge and Plymouth 426 Hemis. Eventually MOPAR teams also ran wedge heads on a 426 RB block to get the bigger plate as well. In the case of the Petty team - they actually took Hemi blocks and modified the wedge heads to fit - because the Hemi block was a better race engine. Petty was winning ALOT with that combo - so NASCAR made the final push to get everyone to run small blocks with no plate during the 1974 season.

Chevrolet Big-Blocks are not wedges. They are 'semi-hemis'.This is why they have excellent breathing capabilities.

Bobby Allison in the lead, Donnie Allison in second ONE LAP DOWN??? Looked like a hell of a race, but I guess it actually wasn’t!
