my first bike ever got it when I was 9 in 1980my dad got it for me second hand, best bike ever i used to be on it every Saturday and Sunday for hours non stop, then something to eat and off again, never broke down once, bulletproof.
That’s my first bike when I was 10.. Same color. Modified it myself over time by adding a Hooker header and green weenie. Took the front fender off and painted it. Tuned it, raced it and spent a few summers pushing it to the limit.
When i was 11 In 1971 my parents got me one brand new in azusa california from Bert's Yamaha Azusa California great place to live &ride dirt bikes back in the 1970s 🎉
Had same bike was my first as well but in yellow and black. the only thing i ever replaced besides tires were the rear shocks from going over so many jumps, was able to get it really high in the air. Bike was virtually indestructible. Never Forget Your First...
Got a brand new 1972 Yellow MX model, $300.00 . It was the best day of my life when I first got it at age 11. Wish I could have kept it . This model with red and white is awesome too , same with the lighted models. I sold it to get a Suzuki TM 100 and started racing at 13. Still have one my TM 100's
trying to find a petcock for mine right now, my grandpa bought it for my dad when my dad was a kid and he gave it to me when i was 9, love the little bastard
I can't remember if mine was a 1972 or 1973 60cc. I go mine when I was 7 years old. Seeing this video brought back a lot of memories. Mine was orange and white, but with that same paint scheme. Thanks for posting this! I can't find any of the pictures of mine.
My first of many bikes although it didn't run. I still ride offroad with Yz426, Kdx200,Gt 80,Xr 80,Mini Trail 50 and always looking for a new project. Thanks for the memories!
excellent restoration Kama I had this exact bike same color everything that I was given for my tenth birthday back in 1971... Great memories great bike
Had one of these, I didn’t know it needed oil because our other bike was a Z50 and didn’t take 2-stroke oil so I figured it just needed gas like the Honda. Wrecked the rings and cylinder. I was only 7 at the time. lol
It was mostly there when he started it, a bit rougher than what it is now, but ebay, Yamaha dealer, and a couple of yamaha NOS parts sites got us everything needed to restore it.
You're the first to note the wheelie. Times flies. Him and I are in the process of restoring a couple more JT1s now. He has a '72 MX version and I am doing a '72 road version.
This is oil injection, not pre-mix. We usually run a little extra oil for breaking in the engine. This bike is not legal to run down the road, let alone the freeway.
Yup love it. My 1st bike in 1977.. rode the hll out of it.. I just bought a used one on auction for 2k. They claim to have gone thru it but I think they were shade tree mechanics..lol Having clutch issues. cable looks new, clutch plates look new and are in tolerance. There is a ton of slack in the cable so maybe they put in the wrong cable.. I see no adjustments at the lever. The book shows adjustments at both ends but if u look at the cable in parts it only shows adjustment at the bottom end of the cable. so no idea which is correct. ANyway great bike. thanks for sharing
