Every time I see Catfish Hunter, I am reminded what a cruel bastard ALS is. Such a great pitcher who could really paint the corners could no longer use his arms near the end of his life.
I was a big fan of The Tigers growing up, I lived in Toledo, just across the Michigan border in Ohio. Nice to watched the players I grew up with as a kid, and the voice of Ernie Harwell, he was a great broadcaster.
It was! Didn't they practice throwing back then? Between the myriad errant throws, the gaping hole at third for the Tigers, and Freehan being a shadow of his former self it's a miracle the Tigers won even one game. In the end, though, they were some horrible umpiring away from winning this series.
Okay , some one out here help 1972 too now how much years is that i was born the same year , anybody remember reggie candy. It was a treat for me and big chew in. The pouch bubblegum ah the memories
it's good to hear George Kell calling the action in Detroit. I grew up with his voice during the 1980's when he was near the end of his broadcasting career. His inflection on certain words, you just know it's George. Same thing with Ernie Harwell. They're both Southerners and that inflection never leaves you. Got to admit, I never heard George so animated on some of those calls. By the looks of it, he called the early innings of the games in the 1970's
Lol...that Billy Martin....tries to get after Campaneris after Bert throws the bat at the head of Lerrin LaGrow.....but I guess his cap falling off his head was a higher priority
