It will be nice and you will feel so good building a car from ground up is the way to go I have been doing builds on the side for about 45 years love making then nice and fast I have a 81 I just bought in needs almost as much as your mine needs all new floor and trunk floor but I was going to make big Stubbs for a big tire rave can anyway and it will make building the roll cage easy 😆 LOL got to Love it be careful allot of GM bolts were made to stretch at tork so there one time use only need new heat treated bolts after market sells all you need for everything but as like everything elves it adds cost but will make the doors and other parts last another 40 year's were used might make it short time and the fits will go bad and piss you off if you're going keep it for any amount of time

ahhh, yes work it is. Not for the faint hearted or those who get frustrated with long projects. My 53 truck that is finally done took 14 years to complete. If you can ever say these old Chevrolets are ever done. My two Camaro's are just as bad as what you have going on. Both are disassembled and been collecting sheet metal and parts for three years while finishing the truck. This spring will be the real start of the projects. Hang in there. It is all about the work, not the finished project.
@DoubleRRestorations

So true Jon. This has been a long project. Today while working on the car I think it hit me, just how much more work I have ahead of me on this sheet metal. Hopefully once the rust is gone and the car has good gaps the project will turn the corner. Are you thinking about putting your build on You Tube. That would be awesome if you did. Give it some thought.

For sure the cart is a great idea, youre right the gaps were never perfect but this looks awesome. Doesn't pay to try and get em perfect they shift around a little anyway after awhile. Just drive it!

So true, They both will need some work, but the driver side has me a little concerned. Just found out tonight the driver side fender has a slight different contour up top where they welded the brace under it at the firewall. Its about 3/16 inch different than the passenger side as it flows to the front of the car. It all depends on what the hood looks like at this point. I messed with it some and put a small dent in it. :(. Had to work it out, then I shut it down for the night, lol

Double R Restorations thank you for your videos and bringing us along with you on your restoration! I wish I had half the skill you have along with the motivation to get out there everyday to build your Camaro. Sadly my 2009 CTS V only needs a wash and the occasional wax, no rust to speak of. Your car will be so much more than what I have because mine was bought and not built! Wish I still had my 97 Camaro RS!

Oh, been meaning to build a door cart. Can you elaborate sometime on what you like and don't like about yours? I was thinking of some way to elevate it slightly for fitting....
@DoubleRRestorations
@DoubleRRestorations 7 лет назад
Jon, it does need some way to elevate it. I think if I built another one I would make something that looked like a small version of a rotisserie (just one end). This would work good and nothing would ever contact a outside painted surface.

Look I'm no teacher. But patchwork breaks through grind your welds good .glass over your welds because glass DON'T absorb water. Skim coat your the glass .then high build primers. Block till your fingers bleed. Use a 24 hour sealer. Tack rag very soft with a blow gun . But parts are very available for 2nd gen .I myself never patch that deep.slam a new quarter. On the half quarter will show it's weld in a few years.
@DoubleRRestorations
@DoubleRRestorations 6 лет назад
Ronald Norman Thanks Ronald. I'm just messing with ya. I do have new quarters for the car. I just cut out some areas to replace the trunk pan and deck filler and package tray extension. Someone already brazed new metal over the rust and ruined these quarters. It's all getting replaced.

You could install a turnbuckle between the Castor and the frame of your gig or in between some other part of The Jig and where the door mounts for a just ability to adjust the door on the stand to meet the car instead of having to adjust the car to meet the stand

I"m wondering, without the front clip and all the other parts removed, if you can even think about lining the door up? Is the motor in it? Those bodies were like wet noodles back then. Just put it on a lift and watch what happens to your door seams!

@DoubleRRestorations 6 лет назад
+S Patoine You got that right, there is alot of flex on these cars. I have solid bushings on it and plan to add frame connectors. Just wanted to get some reference marks. I have got to change the quarters. Be sure to check out the progress in the playlist and thanks for watching.

Hi Russ. I like your new video format. Good to see you back on the 72'. The door seems to have good alignment. You have excellent video equipment and looks like the style line on the forward quarter starts to angle down about half way between the door edge and the wheel opening.
@DoubleRRestorations
@DoubleRRestorations 7 лет назад
Thanks Darryl. The new format is alot of work, but I enjoy it. The style line does angle down. The quarters will be replaced, so for now I'm just getting a reference with the gaps. I hope its more straight with the new quarters.
@ronaldnorman8786
@ronaldnorman8786 6 лет назад
Earlier I had said you need fillers on welds. Well I stopped at my friends and he had A 68 HEMI charger doing a full RESTO. He welded a half quarter on the driver side it was unlike anything I've ever seen it was grinded to were it needed no filler I had to look at the back side to believe it.

@DoubleRRestorations
@DoubleRRestorations 7 лет назад
Great question George. I wanted a reference for the door to fender and door to quarter gaps, when I go to install the new skins. This way I will know what gaps I had with a known good door vs the one I'm installing the skins on. I will have to align the door again and possibly minor adjustment to the fender. I could have just skinned the doors and installed, but this way I will have something to go by. This is the first of many times I will have them on and off the car.
