Roger Staubach, wearing a blue Dallas jersey against the Rams at the Coliseum before the 1972 season began, did get injured and Craig Morton was the Cowboys QB most of the year. He finally returned to play and beat the 49ers in the playoffs.
@@debbiehenson1096 And because Thomas was sent packing they didn't repeat as Super Bowl Champions, they didn't even win their division and were smacked big time in the championship game 26-3 by the Redskins I'm sure they missed his breakaway speed that they didn't have again until Tony Dorsett arrived in 1977
In retrospect if he didn’t get injured a lot, Mike Montgomery could have been a great Cowboy. On that swing pass from Morton, Montgomery outran several Lions like they were standing still.
I been a cowboys fan since 1967 at 8years old,and I can say that the game vs the 49ers was the cowboys single best game ever,a shocker comeback game, birth of America's Team game really cause that's when all the other wild comeback win started at candlestick
When the boys wear blue nowadays it's a choice they make if they have to travel then the hoke team has the option of wearing white or the team colors thereby forcing dallas to wear blue jerseys
5:55 - being from Los Angeles, I tend to acknowledge footage of Jim Hill, who has been broadcasting sports at KCBS-TV in L.A. since retiring after the 1975 season (Cleveland) forty-six years ago.
I always wondered why Hayes appeared to fall out of favor in 1972, but those two dropped bombs in week 1 probably put him in Landry's doghouse for the rest of the year...
Staubach hurt his shoulder in a preseason game against the Rams so he was unavailable to start the season. By the time he was ready to go the Cowboys were winning and Landry was hesitant to change things up, ultimately he did in the playoff win vs San Francisco. Roger did not become the full-time starter until 1973.
@@garytruex6906 Roger actually won the starting job mid-way through the 1971 season. The shoulder injury plus Landry's preference towards Morton's game management play delayed the inevitable until the next season
