I have repaired the leaky fuel tank... it did not hold. I have been told that I need to replace the timing belt.... I have not. I will attempt to install a F81A Spectra fuel tank on this 1972 Ford Pinto Runabout. Will this... not exact fit.. tank work? I will also attempt to install the timing belt. Will it change the way the Pinto runs? The Ole Man and I will give it a go and test drive.. Will is bark a tire or two? All these questions answered on this episode of RevStoration.

People forget that when the Pinto was introduced America’s roads were covered by land yachts made before fuel economy was an issue. Huge LTDs, Lincolns, Buicks, Cadillacs and trucks were impacting the little Pintos. It was a recipe for some horrific accidents. My first car was a 78 Pinto and I’d love to find one to piddle with. Puddin’s last video was in a salvage yard that had a very clean old Pinto in it but the yard’s owner said that he isn’t interested in selling anything to the general public.

I miss those days of big cubic inches big cars and gas 50 cents a gallon. You couldn’t force 20 dollars worth a gas in the big cars with the biggest tanks.

@@spankyham9607 agreed, if I got something I have no intention of doing anything with, I sell it or give it to someone who can use it. It’s crazy to let something ruin for nothing but I got kin folks that do the exact same thing. It’s literally rusting out sitting in the weeds but won’t even consider parting with it. Rather see it completely wasted than someone else have it.

Thank you for showing the plastic piece I asked about at the tank. My first car was a Chevy Vega. Rusted completely but found a good donor car and restored it put in a 350 Chevy motor loved that car lasted 7 more years

Hello Rev & Ole Man. My prayers go out to the Ole Man regarding his surgery and a very speedy recovery. Those fuel tanks and tank straps can really be a major pain to deal with. I have fabricated pieces and parts for tank straps before, So I know your frustration- For Sure,For Sure.

Great work getting that new tank in and the new timing belt. That Pinto is well on it's way to a daily driver. I have been back from the hospital now a couple weeks and rehab says I am strong enough to take care of myself. It took awhile but I'm getting better and almost ready for Chemo Therapy in acouple weeks.

I LOVE pintos. I have had several over the years. You can do a few cheap mods to the suspension and a pinto will handle like a Porshe. The short wheelbase along with wide wheel track makes them handle like mad.

I had a used 73 Pinto Hatchback. Great car!! I overhauled the engine after I got it, easy to work on. Never had a problem with it . I drove the crape out of it til 1982.

I've owned THREE Pinto wagons, a '72 a '76 & a '78 and an '80 Merc Bobcat coupe. They ALL served me well and were always fun to drive. With the hatch open you could carry a short stack of 4'× 8' plywood in those little wagons. Don't even try that in your Escape. The '72 2.0 is a motor from Ford of Germany hence the metric bolts. Yeah back then they did have timing belt and I believe the recommendation for changing them was between 50 to 60,000 miles but I don't believe that's an interference engine so if it does a break it's not going to do no damage and y'all all have a Merry Christmas too

That strap falling on you reminded me of the time I was underneath the rear end of a 1970 F100 out in a wrecking yard. I was trying to remove the spare tire rack when it gave way and fell right on my forehead. I used up every paper towel in the wrecking yard office restroom cleaning up the blood. I put on a string of butterfly stitches and went back to get my spare tire and strap assembly. The guy felt so bad for me that he gave me the parts for free.

I learned how to change my 74 Pintos timing belt in an Exxon parking lot after it snapped at the top of an exit ramp in ‘92 Good times!

I'm anxious to see this video! I owned about 6 Pintos from about 1977 thru 1992. SUPER reliable! They are HARD to find these days. The bodies weren't built to last, unfortunately.

I had a 2-liter 71 pinto. I never removed the crankshaft pulley when replacing the timing belt. Just maneuver the belt around the pulley. In 78, I even replaced the belt on the side of the road. It broke when I was about 60 miles from home. I got the belt off, cussed at it, then crossed the highway, and hitched to the closest Ford dealer, about 10 miles away. Got a belt, and hitched back. Total of about 2 hours work.

Mine has a washer behind the pull which stops the belt from rubbing the pulley.. It would have been impossible to get it behind it.. thanks for watching.

You took that strap to the face a 100percent better than I would have! I've got the world's worst temper and that's why I changed professions because my temper would cause me to break stuff lol! So now I work on only my stuff and at my leisure now! No more got to have it now jobs! Anyway I've always had a soft spot for the pinto/bobcat. I had a 78 mercury bobcat back in high school that I tubed out and built a 302 boss engine out of a 70 mustang boss that was rusted to the ground back in the 80s. That was the meanest bobcat or pinto around back then lol! Wish I still had it!

Just ran across your channel and I subscribed, I watched your video on the pinto tank install and timing belt with the metric bolts. My dad hauled for Ford back then and one of their complaints Was that they found out that the pintos and the Rangers back then had mitsubishi engines. And Ford was misleading the public claiming that they were Ford engines, it took a lawsuit from a mechanics union to bring it to out. My wife and I find your videos interesting and I am Ford to the bone. Ford raised me, my dad was Ford in more ways than driving them, he worked for Ford and our last name is Ford and we lived on mercury drive in galaxy estates subdivision LOL😆 🤣 true story .
