Always loved those big Oldsmobiles. I had a ‘76 88 for 13 years. Came stock with a 350 and it wasn’t enough. So I built a 455 and put it in there, performance jumped dramatically but surprisingly the gas mileage didn’t change.
I have a 71 with 14,000 original miles and - just as your vid clearly demonstrates - BIG GIRL CAN MOVE! Lotta fun to drive this car & it’s actually easier to maneuver than you’d imagine!
Its most definatly a 72, 71s had a lower cut front bumber revealing more of the grill, 73s had a flatter front and less protuding light bezels and slightly shorter grills. nice car.
Of course, buddy, for the time Oldsmobile name came in cursive letter and its logo in big size, as far as I know. For 1978 the design changed and evoluted with square halogen and turning lights.Don't be confused whe putting titles to your videos, Christian.
Olds V8's were renowned for being torque monsters. The blocks also had a higher nickle content from what I have read that made them last longer. All I can say is the 455 in a 72 Delta 88 I knew of went for 297,000 miles without ever having to be opened up.
I'm just seeing that video for the 1st time that car is absolutely beautiful my very 1st car was a 72 Delta 88 coupe and I had appliance Chrome wheels with the wire wire baskets of course I couldn't afford to apply ants wire wheels like this ad let alone vogue tires beautiful car.
I can't believe I stumbled across this and it's old. My very first car was one year older than this one it was a 71 Olds 98 coupe with a 455 I used to beat the Daylights out of it we nicknamed it the rat. And that was in 1976 only 5 years old it was my grandfather's and he passed away. I wish I had those Appliance wire wheels. I had the appliance Wheels with the baskets on them that tried to be wires but weren't
Free flow exhaust makes a huge difference, when you got free flow exhaust from factory the timing and carb jetting was bumped up ,. just that would yield 50 net hp.in the early 70's big moters .
Beautiful, beautiful car, I could live with the after market wheels, but the exhaust is absolutely disgraceful. To my recollection, I have never seen any of the early pre-impact bumper early 1970s full-size Oldsmobiles in this country - ever.
I had a 77 cutlass supreme the exhaust sounded the same. Mine had duals. This was normal for olds v8 engines. This was factory. This would sound better with Flowmaster mufflers . It won't hurt to kick the 4bbl in. I did it with my cutlass. Don't baby this car.
Yeah buddy! She has still got it for sure. Love the color, but the tips and wheels detract from the original beauty. Like you say, this is easily corrected.
@@christianbugatticg Good point! Never thought of that... Don Kellogg Oh well.. Don't really know the actual meaning of that word: donk But get so upset when I see beautiful old cars that have been "donked"
Does the car have tilt wheel and cruise control? Most of the Ninety Eight models had those 2 options, so assuming this one does also. Not many Ninety Eight coupes around that look this nice. Sharp car.
I’d change the exhaust. I like oem Olds. But it looks to be a fine Olds. My Folks bought these cars new in the day. Then later Toronados and Cadillacs. And I love em and that day. Today’s culture stinks.
6:20 wow that was quiiiiick !!! i have a 66 cadillac and the engine needs to be rebuilt. its my first car and first american car i really drove with so i thought it performed nice but if that powered down 70s V8 can do that, my 429 should at least be doing that which it clearly wasn't so i'm excited wow !! beautiful car bty, i like the front of the 73 a lill better but man this car is gorgeous !
I enjoyed the car & video both luxury land liners gave a comfortable ride just as awesome, good & well just like the Cadillac, if people really ever had taken the time all 3 luxury land liners were the same the only difference were the front and rear ends 4 doors & 2 door coupes for the Buick, Cadillac & Oldsmobile except for a couple of miner factors engine power plant wise even both top of the line Pontiacs Bonneville & Grand Ville Broughams all 3 came with 455 CI 4bbl V8’s Cadillac had came with 2 big power plants a 472 & a 500 4bbl V8’s as 4 Chevrolets Caprice Classic, Impala & Monte Carlo’s under their hoods they came with the optional of power plants either a 350, 400 & 454 2 or 4BBl Carb V8’s between the years 4 Cadillac 1969 - 1976, Buick Electra, Oldsmobile 98 & Pontiacs both the Bonneville & Grand Ville’s. Chevy Had SS Badging 4 the Caprice, Impala & Monte Carlo from 1965 - 1976. Man talk about the totally awesome & I mean totally awesome those Big Awesome Power Plants that they ever were 2 Have that GM placed and put underneath the front end hoods of those awesome Rides that they built, created & put their pride in Manufacturing. 2 me they will always be all cool in the Gang with me.😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎 Sincerely Ivan J ✌🏿✌🏿✌🏿✌🏿
The seats are wrong for a 72. They've been replaced with the floating pillow Regency seats, pulled from either a 75 or 76 98. In 72, the only car that had that seat was the 75th Anniversary 98. In 1973, the Regency became its own trim, but seats were done in a sheen-like Onata cloth. In 74 more colors were added, in the velour fabric. In 75 and 76, the blue velour seats in this car were offered on the 98 Regency coupe and sedan.
Am I the only one who cringes when these cars start and sound like a Chevelle ?? These were made to be seen and not heard. Smooth SILENT power, no rubble, just a faint distinctive Olds exhaust note. Very muffled but unique.
@@christianbugatticg I remember a friend showing me her brand new mid-70s Malibu & the seam between the hood & fender was HUGE by the time it reached the bottom of the windshield, honestly almost an inch wide. I had seen others like that on the road. My mother bought a mid-70s Dodge & the roof had wrinkles (like stretched fabric) at the weld to the rear fender. We convinced her to bring it back to the dealer, who said they were mostly ordered with vinyl tops & the wrinkles were hidden. He sent it to a body shop for a sand & repaint but it still showed. Not Detroit's best era.
Yeah that is true but they had way more style and I'd still say the quality control overall was better back then. Some of the garbage they put out now is laughable! @@GenerallyGeneralLee
Hello!! I mention that this is being auctioned off on Bring a Trailer. I will provide the link. It has 2 days to go and the current bid is $11,000.00. bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-oldsmobile-ninety-eight/
I love these full-size coupes when there is no vinyl top. I would love to own this. As for the radio, it's a non-issue. With an old car like this, the engine, transmission, differential, suspension, and body integrity, etc are the concerns. Not the !@#~! radio. Half of this drive centers on the least relevant part. Sorry for the rant.
True on exhaust. I would go with quiet duel exhaust similar to oem if possible. That’s my only complaint but these were bullet proof cars. I’d rather have one of these than any card today because I don’t like the looks of these cars today and the culture today stinks. I’d buy this but dog gone it I live way away from this area and I’d hate to transport.
@@edwardluth7740 I agree, I probably should have done something with at least those "tips"..And how you are right about today's culture!! lol! You know we get our cars shipped all the time, we've had literally 100% success with no real problems! Thanks
@@christianbugatticg I’m looking for a 72-76 -- 98 Regency coupe with low miles. It’s because of my childhood (that’s what my folks bought) and in my opinion the 98 was the best of all GM cars--even better than Cadillac! My Dad said so many times and proved it with these beauties. This fooled me days ago as I saw the pillow tuffed seats and I thought it was a Regency but then I realized and saw in the video that somebody had placed the seats in later. But the mileage is what I am very surprised and intrigued about and it appears that the undercarriage and everything is in very good condition. However I would have to spend some money on a few things you mentioned because when I buy these older ones I try to get everything in oem shape and working. Yes that exhaust in the rear must go. Why on earth? Smh. Now the rest is nice. Btw 72 was the first year of the Regency and pillow tuff seats and it shocked Cadillac and Buick Electra to bits! The LS was the top of the line 98 until the Regency. Was this the LS and then velour seats added? I looked on your link and signed up but no new bids. I saw the highest bid as of 630 am Sunday. Anyway these Youngins do not understand these 455 engines and would be shocked to know just how good they truly are and yes the torque is absolutely amazing. Plus on the 72 the emission controls had not yet all kicked in (damn communists in government already then as my Grandfather use to say) and there was at least 250 hp on this big car and that was a lot for a car that weighed almost 5000 pounds! There now I probably under cut myself and sold your car for you with all that I just said! Lol.
Well John, not sure if you are following but the current bid is at $11,000 with 4 more days to go. And if you'd like to make some money, just tell me where I can buy one everyday for $5,000! I will not only pay you $1000 for every car you turn me on to, but if I actually buy it I will pay you another $500. Let's do this and make some money! I need your expertise in finding these because I sure as heck can't find them!
@@johndillinger8482 All over the Country??? I mean why not make yourself $1000 a car for finding them for me? I can't seem to find them, I need your help. Win win for both of us.
SOLD TODAY FOR $16,500!! I am now offering you $2000 per car that you find me like this. They are ALL OVER THE COUNTRY! Make yourself some money, Chief!
IF you can find one of these in the Mid west they’re going to be loaded with rust. These cars rusted out if you breathed on it. So no, they’re not all over the country at every estate sale. Sheesh!
