Something about those 70's colours are so cool, the candy orange and red and mint green. Nice way to spend your lunch break

Keep an eye out on Facebook marketplace. They pop up a lot. It’s about the only reason I even have Facebook lol…that and the bike groups are a wealth of information too.

When i was like 15 my brother in law had a 1972 , Yamaha DT 175 exact same color as yours, thing always ran great.

All of my Yamahas are so reliable from that era. They used a lot of quality parts…I always remark how all the old Yamahas I work on have suspension that still dampens. I don’t think I’ve had one yet that the rear shocks don’t “pogo” on me like all the old Hondas I have lol

I had a 74 ty250 that had a compression release (jake brake) . I actually used it as a brake on some of the slick downhills. love the colour of that bike

Oh I may need to try using that next time I’m on that bike, thanks! It’s probably my favorite DT…the color and lines are perfect in my opinion.

Love Old Dirt Bikes. My First Motorcycle After Minibikes Was A Yamaha 125 AT2 1972. Improvements: 21" Front Rim & Knobbys Front To Handle Better. Knobby Rear, Expansion Chamber Ring-A-Ding Ding, 2 Cycle With Compression Release. Your Comment Makes Me Laugh. Neighbor Dogs Would Chase Us On Our Bikes. I Would Hit The Compression Release: BahBah, Those Dogs Would Run Away & We Would Laugh. Great Brake System. Godspeed Your Journeys, Mr. T.

@mrmarkthompson2361 this one also has the 21” front wheel conversion. Forgot to mention that on the video. That’s awesome that it scared the dogs lol

This is in western Pennsylvania. I am fortunate to have had these trails in my backyard since I started riding in ‘93. A lot of this stuff has been there since the early 70s.

You are right there is more ground clearance on the side pipe bikes!!! In 1974 Yamaha went with the motocross frame they had an inch less clearance!!!

Good bike in the day. I bought mine new when I was seventeen and still have it. Hate the kickstart but otherwise an adequate trail bike. I mostly ride my ttr 230 and wr250r, much more fun for me trail riding. Besides, two-stroke are loud!

Love it! I just bought the same bike. I have been enjoying getting it trail worthy again. What size is your front tire? They come with a 3.25x19. I am having trouble finding that size in the tire I want. Is the tire on your bike a 2.75x19? I can find that tire in the one I want. Thank you, Subbed.👍
@Garage2Trail
@Garage2Trail 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for the sub! You’ll love that bike. Mine has a 21” on the front. Someone had converted it from the stock 19”. I forgot to mention that in the video. They also put that Preston petty front “high” fender on to accommodate the bigger front wheel. Rolls over bigger obstacles easier with the bigger front. That and having a bigger tire selection vs the 19”

You can rotate the kick starter lever forward until the peddle almost touches the case . You have more effort to access the peddle but the lever is out of the way.

@Garage2Trail I should add that I love these earlier DT250's. My brother bought a brand new 76/77 250. Then a '78 too. Which being Monoshock handled much better off road. I like twin shock bikes, the system is away from dirt and mud. Linkages just sit there exposed to crud. Our mate had a '75 model, I think that it was blue.

Nice to see it used as intended, not just 'collected' Good to stop and check things and that grip sliding off, very disconcerting. A good advert for Yamaha 50+ years later. What an engine, defying the tyres! You're right the later Dts were more 'road' orientated, became heavier although check out the authors '75 Dt video ridden with better tyres and drier conditions. Some people prefer the lighter 175 for more serious off road work. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3jX2x52GoYE.htmlsi=HlOZYKR-LQ6u-rYo

I’d like to get good tires on this thing and go again…in a perfect world I could put good knobs on the DT, MT and TS that I have and do a head to head shootout in the woods to have a fair comparison. I need to find a 175…would be cool to put head to head against the TS185.

@@Garage2Trailit has a lot more grunt like the dt250, compared to the more peaky Suzuki ts185. More nimble than the 250 and doesn’t have the kickstart hitting your ankle all day, that part really bothered me

u have a lot of dirt bike is the Beta that much better to justified the cost.
@Garage2Trail
@Garage2Trail 7 месяцев назад
I think it depends on the kind of riding you do. For the “hard enduro” more technical riding, it’s justified. I didn’t think it would be until I rode my buddy’s bike in those conditions. I would have been happy riding my XR400 as my woods bike if I didn’t have his to compare to lol. I realize how much longer I’m able to ride on my beta because it’s so much lighter and ergonomically designed for that kind of riding. That being said, I’ll never sell my XR because it’s still my favorite all around bike to me…just not my choice in those extreme conditions where you get worn out fast on a heavy bike with dated suspension.
