@@Sam-td4ii agreed. No one ever mentions Peters late 'splash & dash'. Even if Chivas had NOT have run out of petrol, the extra pit stop would have made the last 10 laps very interesting between Brock and Moffat. Never the less, what happened happened. Thanks again for putting the vid together. cheers.
Brock said years after the event that Doug Chivas tried to clutch start the car while rolling down Conrod, after the engine stopped up the top of the circuit. Competitors at Bathurst in the Improved Production and Group C eras would regularly run out of fuel by delaying their stops a little too long. If it happened on the downhill side of McPhillamy Park, they could coast the car back to the pits, refuel, and continue the race. Bob Morris did it early on in '76 race before going to the chequered flag, and it happened to Brock and Perkins again in '82 when they won. I don't know if Chivas ever confirmed it, but Brock reckoned that by popping the clutch on the way down, he lost too much momentum to get over the last little rise into the pits, and then had to get out and try to push it the rest of the way.
Tomarse R. Why say shit like that. Why did Harry Firth cheat. He was. Bloody clever bloke and taught Brocky and Bondy a lot of race tactics on how to win. Ya need a good car, a good driver, a good team and good team manager. He was a master on how to set a car up to handle and instruct his drivers on how to go about their job. Ya still sore how a little 202 beat the “all mighty” GTHO Falcons. Suck it up mate.
Not necessarily. Even if Chivas didnt run out of fuel, and as this video shows, Brock still wouldeve had to pit again for a 'Splash & Dash', so it was not a fore gone conclusion.
