Damn total survivor you guys aughta be saving that originality to the best of your abilities they’re only original once!! Never mind I see the crusty weight reductions..a shame such awesome original paint
That was my Uncle Art's car. I remember driving it a few times around Neepawa. Even got to drive it all the way from Winnipeg to Neepawa so he could talk to some relatives from England we had picked up in Winnipeg.
Thats really cool Art was one in a million super nice guy. Actually just pulled the engine out yesterday and there will be a video up tomorrow night. Will get it up and running again.
Bk in 1984 my dad and I cleaned up a 1975 Malibu, 350/350 auto, new paint, complete new front end, it was my high school car. I graduated in 87. I Loved that Chevelle So Much. With the new front end you could turn the wheel w one finger, it rode like a cloud, Soooo Smooth. I miss it so much. I love this 73 you have. Soooo much potential.
Still my favorite car , I was 15 when i bought it, I had a 73 Chevelle, total basic, 307 , no power steering, 14 “ tires, heat riser off the manifold, 350 turbo automatic, Basic! Didn’t stay that way long, lol, I worked side jobs and my brother worked at a junkyard, A lot of from there. Love that car, I’m 56 now and still see it in my memory. Thank you for your videos 💯👊🏻 BTW. Mine didn’t have the swivel seats, I got a set out of a Monte Carlo , Ended up putting in a 327 HiPo out of a Impala , Put a Muncie 4 Speed, Also put in a Dyna 60 Rear end . Fantastic street ride , Again thank you.
Just stumbled onto this video. I have a 73 Chevelle SS that has been in the family since new. Maroon with white stripes. My aunt bought the car right off the dealer’s showroom floor. She sold it to my Dad when it had around 86,000 miles on it. Dad gave it to me for high school graduation. I drove through college and after graduating from college, I pulled the tired old 2bbl 350 out and disassembled it. Had it bored 30 over. Crane blueprint cam. Rhoads lifters. Bought a used 4bbl intake from a salvage yard and set a new Quadrajet on it that I had tuned by a local carb man. Set of Hedman headers the drove it to the local muffler shop to get new exhaust with dual 36” glass packs. I had a lot of fun with that car. My retirement will be its restoration. It will be quite a project but I long to be able to drive it again. 🙏
This Colonnade survivor would be extremely cool set up in "Day Two" fashion the way an owner in the '70s would have done. Headers, cam, intake, big carb, gauges, finned valve covers, maybe an L-88 hood, slotted or spoked mags, a little lift in the rear with some Hi-Jacker shocks, period speed equipment decals, etc. Incredible find! Cars like this kept the muscle car spirit alive as the auto industry navigated a difficult and tumultuous decade. Thanks for sharing.
My ‘73 Cutlass had the same antenna in windshield but didn’t have the swivel buckets. Great video seeing that beast start up. I would rebuild everything, it’s worth it.
Had one with an in-line six cyl. Ran great and easy to work on. The Michigan winters and salt on roads rusted it out. Floorboards covered in plywood and snow blowing in had to finally junk it. Wish I had one now!!!!
My son and I are in the process of opening a restoration/consignment shop here in Northwest Arizona and the mid-late (73-77) 70's cars and trucks are what were going to build and flip. They are becoming a VERY popular build here in the Southwest and West U.S. because alot of them are still on the road or not far from it and they are cheap. When I first moved here I bought a 73 Buick Regal with a 350 and 350 auto trans for $1300 and drove it home, after putting new tires and wipers blades on it it passed inspection, it was in such good shape that I'm now driving it while I work on it. My son just bought a 75 Malibu 4 door for $500 and it was the same way, new tires, new wipers and we had to rewire a headlight and it was on the road. I think we picked the best place possible to do it, Were an hour ish south of Vegas, 3 hours from both Flagstaff and Phoenix and 4 hours east of L.A., good spot for finding good "unwanted by the masses" cars.
Friends had a couple of those Malibus back in the day. All 4drs. Pretty popular car in the day. They were ok looking. This one being a 454 SS and a 4spd is probably fairly rare spec'd car, I can't wait for more updated videos on it.
As a passenger when I was 12 yrs old, in 1988, I was wearing just the lap belt in my sister's 73 Chevelle. Was a 400 automatic car. Her 1st day driving on her 16th b day. She hit a tree and my head went through that big, flat dashboard when impact tree then car flipped. Was the end of that 73 Chevelle with a 400ci. Was last day of school for summer break too. Shitty way to start summer break when 12 yrs old.
An old friend of mine, found one like this in someone's yard 30 years ago in Indiana, except it was a dark blue with black interior with swivel buckets, 454 ,4 speed,, it's a nice find , great video
Good morning Penny's Crew, not something you see everyday . Gotta stop watching or I'll be late for work for sure . Without a doubt for sure I'll study this as soon as possible .Will look amazing in no time !
Thanks guys. LOL I had the same car when I was 16 in 1977 except I had the 350 automatic with gold color and interior everything the same. Love it. Can’t wait to see her cleaned up
In my late teens and early 90s in my small hometown in West Virginia I had a buddy that had one of these and I had a 81 sport edition cutless we meet each morning we would wait for one another to drag race across the river down a stretch and split ways on to work sometimes I’d win sometimes he would actually got down to who did what the weekend before. My friend drowned about ten years back and man do I miss him But what memories we made. Happy holidays guys
My dream car! Someday Id love to open an old garage door and find a 73ss 454 4 speed. I've had a couple 73's and still think they are the best looking Chevelle's.
That's my baby right there. I had 1 around 20 years ago (but she wasn't a Super Sport), & I miss her DEARLY! Too bad I haven't been able to find 1 that isn't rusted to death for an affordable price since.
aw man this is awesome. i have a 74 Laguna. i plan on cutting up and doing body work on it this winter to get it ready to be painted next year.. original 400/auto but im changing it to a 4 speed.
@@pennyshotrodscustoms Awesome! Definitely DON'T "roadkill" it. Unfortunately "hackery" seems to be popular these days. Some cars you just shouldn't do that too. Look forward to updates.
That car deserves a full restoration, very rare. I have always liked the 73-77 body style having owned 2 Malibu's in the past, While not worth what the earlier cars are worth, they drive and ride way better than any 68-72 car!
Brings back memories, I had a 1973 Malibu 350-2, one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. It was a shame that the quarter went so bad before the rest of the car.
sweet old Chevelle. amazed it ran and started on that old gas in the tank. then again i had a Blazer that had about 3 gallons of water that an old farmer just kept dumping heat into the tank and it ran. only reason i found it was water was i pumped it out in the middle of winter and it came out like a slushy. it ran so much better after i got the tank cleaned and full of good gas. i would definitely check on that lifter noise. could just be a lifter sticking from setting. i've been enjoying your video's. keep up the good work. and congrats on the barn find.
My first car was a 73 Chevelle Laguna. It was in rough shape, but I loved that car. To this day I have only seen one other one around where I live. I would love to be able to find one and restore it.
Nice revival guys! Pretty neat car with some good local history, and interesting options! I have never seen a factory 454 4 speed before - 70's cool LOL. Looking forward to the next one when you do a bit more work and can beat on it a bit too !!! Take care!
Love it! and to get into reverse, you have to lift up on the stick, and then it will allow you to go left and up for reverse. The factory shifter knob with the pattern says "Lift" before the "R", the velvet Hurst handle, not so much :)
That's nice had a 73 also ivory SS auto on the floor with the swivel seats that one needs a lot of work always rusted in the same places well worth fixing very rare !!😊👍
@@corypenny2078 Safety bumpers ON THE Chevelles MALIBU'S and MONTYs. The Laguna had that molded nose looked better like the GRAND AMS PONTIAC put out we had one Amercan body GRAND AM 400 Pontiac. IT WAS A GOOD LOOKING CAR.
Awesome video, this car brings back a truck load of crazy memories ,I'm Winnipegger, and got to know these pretty good, buckets were first in a Monte Carlo , they sure were nice option,454 not big hp, buckets loads of torque in the winter time you could idle off the line and never have to spin tires, i do remember these in 73 was the last or 2nd last year to have valve guides in them for leaded fuel, a few years alter when unleaded came out it wasn't to friendly to valve train , remember pulling one apart in 78/79 to change the guides and a bit of head work at a shop in winnipeg on Nairn ave called head hunters it was a good shop and quick turn around times, buddies mom had a 75 Malibu 4dr with a 350 4 bbl and turbo 350 and that thing for some reason was fast as hell and hit a 100 mph like no ones business , we did allot of drinking and partying in that car , rode hard and put away wet, we kept it tuned up and running really good at our high school, tau shops teacher was a buddy of our friends dad, so we got a ton of leeway from him and she loved it, it never ran bad , she just never knew how many tune ups and oil changes it got,LOL, the muncie shifter in your car had either brass bushings or plastic one of the years had them plastic ones, not too good, the brass were nice never seem to wear out, for a 47 yr old car its ,nice body is as good as you can find especially for a Manitoba car, if you need door or window seals there is company in Wpg in the Inkster industrial park Polar Bear Rubber, if you take a sample of the original they will match it i did a 78 Volvo Coupe 25 yrs back and it was cheap to do the whole car, or one of them companies in the states, pretty sure Year One would carry it. Y'all gonna have lots of fun with that 73 Chevelle SS 👍
Love '73s. Very rare 4speed, and a big block. Sound like motor needs some Rislone to clean up lifter clatter. Make sure you use a 10W40 with zinc and Wix 51060. Lucas Hot Rod oil is what I use. Don't want to ruin the original cam.
Harleyguy, I just made a similar comment and just saw yours...You have excellent taste, I have always thought the 73s in all the A body cars were an awesome year, right before they went with the Really Big Bumpers!
LOVE the 73 and 74 A bodies in all of the flavors! The suspension , handling, braking and ride of the later A bodies is far superior to the 68 - 72 A body. Yes they were heavier, but get yourself 400 or so HP and stiffer springs and sway bars in one of these bad boys, and you are in for a ride. I have a 74 Buick Century Grand Sport with a built up 455 and OMG...Can't say enough how much I love to drive this car vs. my 1970 Pontiac Tempest A body. And most of them had A/C. I drive the Buick allot now that air is blowing cold!
Why did so many people park them and just walk away....so rare and they just left them to decompose.....then one day a guy with a pickup truck full of tools yanks the hood open and drops a new holly carb in it- tightens a few bolts-sprays ample amounts of brake cleaner everywhere- and BEAST IS ALIVE AGAIN!!!
My first car was a 73 Laguna. Those seats are swivel buckets. Also maybe last year of round tail lites. Lift up or push down on shifter to get reverse i think.
i miss mine ! i have the oppurtunity to buy it back, mine was a short block 350, with the bench seat i wanted to put in the swivels and the counsel , but it would had gone down in value , love to have another it's on the bucket list oh by the way? i'm a newbie to your channel
My friend is doing a total resto on a 73 Chevelle SS 454 automatic. That 4 speed is very rare, I believe only around 600-700 were made along with around 2600 automatics.
@@pennyshotrodscustoms Yes. He has been at it about 10 years on his, total frame off resto. Has played HELL trying to find year correct parts, many seem to be 73 only. I guess the story is it was supposed to be a 72 launch however a strike at GM forced them to delay the launch until 73.
Clearly a very unique car. Only 12 made in Canada, and about 600 or so made in USA, with a big block and 4-speed manual gearbox. I own one myself, probably the only one in Sweden.
You might try a Lock-Right Locker 1910-LR by PowerTrax in your 12-bolt. I swapped the 10-bolt in my 72 Malibu for a 12-bolt from a 67 El Camino and the Lock Rite worked great!
73 Chevelle was my first car I still have dreams about I bought it from a friend for 500 bucks I loved everything about especially the swivel bucket seats
Was my first car too! Bought in 1984 for $1K. Was a faded brown SS and had extreme rust in the rear quarters as well. The latch for the driver's swivel seat was broken so it was really nice to just open the door and pivot up and out. Good times...!
I think they offered it up until 75 maybe? 72 was the last year of the older body style, the cars for 73 looked totally different. Id never own one myself, as I think the quality of body style went way down hill after 72, but still an interesting car that you don't ever see...and it is a Chevelle.
Man what a cool car not my fav .body but dont matter that thing is a unicorn. My have bad valve spring those big motors were hard on them .cool peice chevy history. Thanks Penney!
had a black 73 chevelle SS swivel buckets true SS , but they never had a big block from gm unless ordered that way.. 1973 Engine 250 cu in (4.1 L) Chevrolet I6 305 cu in (5.0 L) Small-Block V8 307 cu in (5.0 L) Small-Block V8 350 cu in (5.7 L) Small-Block V8 400 cu in (6.6 L) Small-Block V8 454 cu in (7.4 L) Special Order Big-Block V8Transmission 3-speed manual 4-speed manual 3-speed automatic
Thank you for the information. This one is definitely must have been a special order. The dealer that it was bought from I was told they brought in a few "Muscle cars" to bring in more customers, but by 73 there were not to many takers.
@@chevyfan1251992 The owner did get a dealer build sheet for the car and it is correct. We are going to pull the rear seat out and see if there is another one there also.
@@pennyshotrodscustoms People are paying big bucks for those cars now. 3 years ago I was looking for one, Not even a shell for sale anywhere. You have a GEM on your hands man. $$$$$ I hope your gonna restore to factory with maybe a few mods.
Have a 1976 Malibu Classic coupe that we removed from an outbuilding on my uncle's farm when he passed. We never knew he had the car because he had become such a private person. It had a 1987 tag and only 70,000 miles showing. Apparently that was when he parked it there. Took to my brother in laws shop and got it running. Surprisingly it cranked without any issue after flushing gas tank and changing oil. It has surface rust on the horizontal body parts from not being cleaned for so long. Body is very solid otherwise. Landou roof vinyl had deteriorated and ripped. Interior is in really good shape and has swivel bucket seats and console. Just wondering if that model Chevelle would be worth it as a project. Best thing is the body not having serious rust issues which is uncommon for a car of that age.
I guess you just ignore the rocker arm clatter. The valves need adjusted, but probably a soft cam.T You should not keep your foot on the clutch no matter if think it is no pressure at all, put your foot on the floor, makes a huge difference on clutch life, foot on clutch 80k miles vs no foot on clutch 150k miles. Nice find!!!
Dad bought one new. Got it as an inheritance. Quit driving it at 350,000 miles and sold it....still ran strong but no AC. Sounds like pushrod or few may be clogged.
I live in Transcona, and when I was a kid, my neighbour's son had one that was nearly identical. Pretty sure his was repainted and only had a small block, but I had to do a double take.
Wow! I never saw one like that and I remember when those Chevelle’s were new. Having a brand new big block must have sucked during the 73 gas shortage. Lol
Built in obsolescence....I have a 74 Buick Grand Sport 455...it was built AFTER the oil embargo hit, yet some dude with some cash said "give me the biggest engine they make!" as in "F -YOU" to the system!
Hey, fellow SS 454 owner here! Definitely a fan of your car, the looks and feel are very refreshing to see on the road. Been working on mine now for what seems like forever, and recently came upon a large problem. Would you by any chance know anywhere that sells the whole wiring harness for this particular car? Keep up the awesome work, luv the content, luv the car!
Guy down the street from me has one of these sitting under a pine in his driveway for probably the last 16-17 yrs. Red with a black top and factory sport wheels. Used to be nice car I remember it driving everyday. Left side of rear bumper just dropped on the ground within the last year. Underside must be shot, I live in massachusetts.
I had swivel bucket seats in my 77 malibu classis , it had side louvers on the opera windows and had a rear spoiler like camaros , it said Chevelle SE in the rear, and it was white with orange stripping . It just had a 305 cid. Still have pictures of this car .
My first car was a white/black stripe 1973 Chevelle SS with a 350, factory tach and gauges, power windows, am/fm 8 track, posi rear and of course swivel bucket seats.
