Thats probably the best looking boat Ive ever seen. Thse 70's speed boats where the coolest. Nothing is made as cool as it was back in the 60s and 70s, including houses, boats, appliances, etc.

Shipwreck is an outstanding father/son company with amazing attention to detail and quality. Re-gel is the only way to go. If you don't want to spend the money, buy a better boat to start with. Located in Princeton, MN and Dresser, WI.

@snareLINEVI It's my brother's boat. He did quite a bit of research and got a lot of metalflake samples. Purple was one of the options he was looking at. Purple is one of the coolest colors. The paint is actually gelcoat and in my opinion is the only way to bring a fiberglass boat back to it's original condition. Problem is it's expensive, not so much the gelcoat, but the labor involved smoothing out the orange peel finish after the gel is sprayed on. The CV-16 Super is a sweet boat.

I have the 1974 Glastron Carlson CV-16 Super, found it in a boat junk yard, I re-built it , the best part is that I kept it all original, just like you. The color is purple sparkle, looking to get that color back to what it looked like back in 74, what did you use or what kind of paint was it?

I bought my CV-16 new in 1974 with a 115 hp Mercury outboard and still have it today ! However I want to freshen the green metalflake ...could you please tell me what color flake that is?? I had a choice at the time between the purple or the green and I loved the green ! You have a beautiful boat now ! Thank you in advance!

I was sure hoping to see it on the water at the end. Sure was dissapointed. That is the point of it, isn't it? Unless it's going to be a dinette! It is an awesome looking dinette if that's what it is going to be!

@hobie16mn underneath the wood trim on the outside I have the original color. Purple gelcoat would look incredible on the whole boat. I do believe that the Glastron Carlson CV-16 super handles way better than the GT-150. It’s the Carlson V hull that screams total performance.

I have a similar boat and the gelcoat and metalflake are pretty rough. What is a rough estimate on cost to have it redone? It's really the last thing I need to do for the restoration.

That's great, how much did it cost to get it done with gel coat? I am seriously considering doing it to mine. I talked to a local guy that said it will cost $3,000 or $4,000.

there's a '73 glastron for sale on craigs list in my area. they want only $200 but it has no engine, and needs new floor and interior but has good hull and overall good condition. do you think i should have a look at it?

Couldn't agree with you more on the 70's boats. Take the decals and stickers off todays boats and you can't tell one manufacturer from another. I don't get it. This is my brothers boat in the video. Pictures don't do it justice. It turned out really nice.

im my oppinion the best boats came from the 70's. VERY NICE BOAT! I have a 76 apollo with a similar looking hull and blue metal flake gel coat and I love it. new boats all look alike and are boring.
