Beautiful bike. I bought a brand new 75 Sportster when I was 19 years old. I rode the wheels off of that thing. Looking at your’s fired up some great memories. She’s a keeper. Ride safe

That is about as good as it gets! This video is excellent in showing a great stock sportster just the way they came new. Im almost finished restoring my 73 xl. Bought the frame and engine on ebay. Rebuilt the engine and frame. Painted it red and have the stock decals. Im wiring it up now which is somewhat tricky as the manuals don't tell you everything. This video goes nice and slow over the whole bike and i appreciate that. Thumbs up!

@@serapis157I bought my first Harley ,(3rd bike) a 76 xlh new in Billerica Mass and accidentally pulled a wheelie leaving the dealership. I wasn't prepared for the power. Luckily, I recovered nicely and blended into traffic like it was planned. I loved that bike and road it in the winter sometimes. My 73 is almost ready to start and I put trial tires on in so I can putt around on the dirt roads around here. No more wheelies for this old man though.

I bought a 73 Sportster XLH in 75 for $2,000 when I was 20. Wish I had kept it. Thank you for the ride and memories.

Thanks for posting. It’s great that people take the time time to make these videos that so thoroughly capture the details of these old bikes.

My favorite AMF era graphics. I think this was Harley-Davidson's first blacked out bike. I have a mostly original (except for carb, pipes, bars)73 XLH I bought from a pawn shop in Mobile for $1200 in 2016. I was surprised it had not been chopped or boogered up--- still functional stock speedo and tach and turn signals. It was semi-running, hence the price. I rode it for two years before it dropped a valve. I bought original 73 tank decals off Ebay and a local painter did an amazing job with them. The colors are brilliant after nearly 50 years. I installed an original Harley heel-toe shifter. Love the right side shift Ironheads. You've inspired me to get her back on the road. My daily rides are an original 1982 FXB Sturgis and a somewhat chopped Sturgis, also an 82. I don't care for any post-86 HDs after the factory got rid of the kick starter.

Harley and Amf hit the nail.on the head with that design on tank. Still popular today.

@@serapis157 not really. The tank has been around a long time. I meant the graphics. Red, white, and blue stripes horizontally.

Just a couple of things: Sportster’s built before 1/1/1973 came without turn signals and the ‘55 style tail light; this machine has both. This Sportster also has the late cylinders and heads, with the updated head bolt pattern and 12 point head bolts. This machine also has the ‘74 and later throttle control.

She's a beauty, many good memories of seeing them when practically new. They would beat all the big twins back in their day. They were a STUD bike, especially the XLCH with kick only start.👍

Great video , thank you . What you have there is a very rare machine . 1973 was the first year of front disc , one year only front wheel hub . First year of plastic rear tail light . I bought my 1973 when it was only 4 months old it still had a metal tailight and throttle cable in the handlebars . Beautiful !

My first sporty was a 72 drum brake model; last all American built bikes. The single drum on the front was terrible if not dangerous. I have a 75 sporty which I am restoring and converting back to right shift. I also run a 2004 twin cam but Ironheads win my vote every time. Nice machine for sure.

Cool . You ever had issues where it dumps and leaks out the right side cam breather ? I have a 1976 that is identical to yours but does that .
@serapis157
@serapis157 Год назад
Hi Brandon, This sometimes happens.First thing I would check is the correct amount of oil that is in the bike.Over filling with oil can do this..Get on a Ironhead group site, they can help you further with the issue..Cheers

I'm looking at a nearly identical bike, what is a reasonable price for something like this?

I would say $8000. Give or take.
@clintwoodruff1187
@clintwoodruff1187 6 месяцев назад
Turn off your gas, Homer ! If your float needle sticks ( quite common) from a piece of dirt, you'll wash off the oil from your cylinders ! I shouldn't need to explain what happens from there ! But you spell it in $ +$+$ !

Girls bike ? Why would you say that?
@neonin97
@neonin97 2 года назад
@@timhudson1846 Because an 883 sporty is not usually a mans motorcycle. A woman generally rides them. Bikers won't even let a man join their club riding one. Hells Angels and the like. Not my rules, just saying. Nice bike though.
