1973 Norton Commando 850 

Got 16 classics with three Norton Commando's all completely restored,ready to ride.Great video's Ken .Keep them coming.Definitely gotta make it up to the museum soon!!

Still got mine after 29 years and I ride it regularly and she never fails to make me smile.

My dad bought one brand new. I remember riding on the gas tank when I was just a baby. Much respect to you and your family stay safe

If this bike was in classic black with gold trim, it would be my dream motorcycle. Nortons are beautiful and this one looks like it may be one of the best left.

When I was a kid there was a Norton/Triumph shop by the next town over from me. I used to go by there and just look through their front window display. Always wanted a Norton. My dream bike….

There are a lot of people in England who think that this is the best British bike - even among the hallowed Vincents and Broughs which are now out of most people's pockets. Sure they have idiosyncrasies but they are a much more usable bike and turn just as many heads. I have for a long time thought that the Commando engine mounts were the inspiration for the FXR mounts - it's nice to hear someone else say it. Just one thing though - it sounded like you said that originally the Commando had a single carb, when they had twin Amals which were as you said an absolute bugger to keep in tune and the same goes for Triumphs. So many people like to fit a single carb and it doesn't really detract from overall performance - Mikuni has just about perfected slide carbs, there was a manufacturer called Gardener that made flat slide carbs back in the day which were better than Amals. As for your comments about the electrics, well now you know why (Joe) Lucas was called the 'Prince of Darkness'. At the age of 19, in 1979 I bought an 850 Electric Start Interstate Commando that I still think of as my best 'toy' ever..... Black and Gold with the biggest fuel tank !

I remember I think they did a jubilee version of the commando 750 sliver and red beautiful, I think it was called the fastback ,but that yellow paint scheme really stands out , sounds sweet 👍

In 1970 Cycle magazine tested six of the best known high displacement bikes of that time. In the 1/4 mile acceleration test the 750 Commando beat them all including the Honda CB750 and the Kawasaki H1 Mach III.

I bought one in '84 for 800 bucks and rode it home. Cool bike and the only bike I regret selling in '90 for two grand. Doh!

Shifter on the right, rear brake on the left, had a BSA 68 Firebird, same display

That's a very nice bike,I owned a 1971 Norton commando roadster twin amel carbs smaller fiberglass tank ,65hp stock, compared to 60hp.That bike hauled a$$ the only problem with the bike was the primary case had only one holding the primary case on, it would come loose and was not a good thing, also those motors vibrate real hard,carrying motor mount bolts,was a normal thing.It's the one that got away!God bless you and your family! Just a few things, the side stand breaking issue was with 750’s fixed on 850. The single carb kills the top end performance, EVERY part is available from Andover Norton and others. The rear grab rail is correct for 850, the black barrels are not original, came silver from Norton because Combat’s were black and they did not want the association Nice bike

Have you shifted it the wrong way yet ? Winding out 3rd then hit 2nd instead of 4th because the pattern is opposite.
