1974 Chevy Vega Grumpy's Toy XI Pro Stock starting and revving hard at Mecum Kissimmee 2020. This thing was so loud it threw me off balance when it was running. It sold for $220,000.
Lean pop is rad when you have too much fuel pressure and the floats are set higher than giraffe nuts. That thing sounds nothing like a Pro Stock engine … and the guy that revs it should be embarrassed.
Need to get someone to work on that thing that knows what they are doing. Don't know who these guys are however I do know they don't have a clue what they are doing.
Its sad that this magnificent machine wasnt properly set up and tuned for this offering. Bill Jenkins had to be rolling over in his grave at this mess. Wonder if there is any video of him driving this very same car onstage at Barrett Jackson back when it sold for $550,000. He had it running right back then. Whomever prepared this disaster should have been flogged!
IT MAKES NO SENSE...PAID $577K AT BARRETT_JACKSON 11 YEARS AGO..THE COMPLETELY REDID THE CAR...NO LONGER ORIGINAL..$$$$$$......5 YEARS AGO TRIED SELLING AT MECUM WITH A RESERVE...WENT TO $300K AND PULLED IT OFF THE BLOCK...THEN SELL IT FOR $200.000K..??? IM CONFUSED......SHOULD HAVE HAD A MECHANIC, REAL DRIVER / TUNER WITH THE CAR..!!!
@ thank you. I've been saying this for years. Most of them couldn't turn a wrench to save their lives and are the reason people are asking 5 grand for a four door maverick 🤣 All about the money and are screwing the enthusiast who builds their own cars with blood sweat and tears.
@ yessir. I watch his videos now and then. He literally knows nothing about old school cars and happily destroys classic cars on the regular. He doesn't seem like a bad dude, just ignorant. I lost it when he crushed the field of classic mustangs. That was horrible.
First thing I was screaming.....TIMING!!! ...and then proceed to flood it more when its obviously flooded to begin with. There's FOUR accelerator pumps.....jeez.... Oh...instead of having a rag start on fire too....just crank it again and suck the flames down.....
Retard the timing 2 degrees and you won't get flare ups through the carbs. Nice to see Bills car is still here. Seen him race numerous times, grumpy and dyno Don Nicholson were two legends I loved to watch back in the day. Those were the days! My mom had a 74 vega, wish it sounded and looked like grumpys!
Maybe that’s the way Grump ran it (I doubt it), but why was the timing backed up so far?? It seems like it needs to be tuned properly. It’s painful to watch them keep running it with it popping back so bad.
Thats the most ridiculous display of irresponsible stupidity I've ever seen. If the right person don't get that car it'll burn to the ground one day in a garage full of other high dollar history I'm afraid.
Saw that ride have sooo many "match races" vs Sox & Martin, Don Nicholson & Bob Glidden back in the day at the local drag strips, loved that ride.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I used to own a metal flake grey one. Mine was a 75 & it had a mild 327 from a 66 Nova. Th350 transmission. I ended up selling it back around 95 when emissions testing came around. It wouldn't pass & I couldn't get a waiver because it wasn't factory. Therefore, I couldn't get tabs. It also had an 8.5 in rear axle from a V8 Monza. I'd like to get another one someday. Or a V8 Pinto,Gremlin, Monza...a small hotrod of some sort, I'm not really brand particular. The last time I saw a Vega on the street was about a year ago. It was 76 Station wagon in good shape & was running good, but it had an engine swap. It had a 22R Toyota engine & transmission. 😂 It was orange w/white interior. Reminded me of a Creamsicle.😂
Would be doin good to run a 12:50 if you could even keep this bucket running to make a full pass. Who am I kidding, it won’t even idle to the burnout box.
I think it was late 70's or early eighties at a new car auto show in miami beach this car was offered at $12,000 and i passed on it. Can someone tighten the clamp my nuts are in it.
Holy SHIT that thing was flooded out..😳 and I'm SURE that the plugs were fouled out to the point of NO return. Look at the gray smoke coming out the back of the car. I would have just quit at that point, and threw a new set of plugs in before trying to go any further.
Grumpys' Toy seems to have very old fuel in the tank. With the compression Jenkins was known for, the engine is going to complain. Drain the system, put in aviation gasoline......
Everyone here: "The timing is off...." 😒 Me: NO! The guy who started it flooded the piss out of it, to the point that the plugs were too far gone to EVER recover. Put some new plugs in it, fire it up the correct way, and she'll be fine.
Esos mecánicos o maiztrillo primero afinen bien los carburadores y con tan solo 1 de 1150 Dominator jala nada mas que traiga arriba de 700 HP caballos de fuerza y funciona
@@jhoward5554 Yea, if you wanna knock 150h.p. out of it... If the guy knew how to start the fricker, without flooding it to the point that the plugs were junk, it would have run fine.
man that about makes me sick bill would be pissed , if I die somebody better learn how to work on my engines and keep them running right or I will haunt them forever!
built a bbc15.1com no1couldn’t figure out running like this she ran9.8s set the timing where it idle crank right up ran10.4s fully stock shift on collar all original garage kept crank with original key full pipes bout to go threw it soon
When flames coming out from carb. dont stop cranking it so flames are ingested in, not coming out and air is cooling the carb. Dont stop cranking it. Don pump gas either. That guy dont know about carburator engines..
Sweeeet!!! Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins pioneered racing by dropping the clutch at 9000 revs -- bullet-proof starts. And that's a small block Mouse not a.big block Rat (check the headers).
Almost sounds like the accelerater pump nozzles were plugged and the bowls needs priming for sure or maybe needs fresher fuel Grumpy would not have clapped after or during that run session if that car is for real make it run right check the valve clearance and the plugs before you start it up or let R.i.P. it is a part of American history
