This week Timmy sat down with Will Lind and Travis Owens to discuss the progress they’ve made on the 1974 Daytona 500 winning restoration project. We hope you enjoy! - - Make sure to like and subscribe!!
Great subject ! Speaking of torsion bars & leaf springs etc, maybe you could get "Uncle Richard" or Dale Inman to look in on your progress. I know when that car showed up at the second Nashville race of '74 it had Small Block power that STOMPED the field that day (coming out the corner looked like the LF wheel almost off the ground).
Like seeing the Herchel McGriff item on the left side of the table. Saw him a few times From Anderson, Portland, and Umatilla. Before I finished college and was able to go to Ontario and Riverside. Remember going to Riverside and seeing Richard in the pits after the race.
Yes!!! The 74 Charger! I have a bone stock unrestored one in the garage that proudly wears it's Petty stickers and license plate frame!! I grew up watching the King race this car. It was my favorite so much that i found a civilian example 26 years ago in mint condition and have had it ever since. 43 forever.
Shes looking good, Timmy! Yall are outdoing yourselves as always. Chief would be proud! More videos of this build please!!! God bless y'all every one! 🏁🇺🇸
Another great addition. I enjoyed it. Question, what was the axle used? Where did the original leaf springs and torsion bars come from? I watched Richard win at Michigan International with that car. He out foxed the Silver Fox himself. Real close race. Basically a?drag race off of turn 4. On the last lap Pearson was running second, went past Richatd who did a repeat move of Daytona but this time neither crashed and Richard took the checkered flag.
As a kid, my dad often took me to the races. Local short track racing at Cleveland, Boyd’s, Woodstock, Dixie, Five Flags, Atomic, Nashville Fairgrounds, Birmingham. My first time at a NASCAR Grand National event was the Dixie 500 at Atlanta. It was a hot day in August. Richard Petty drove a 1970 Plymouth Superbird to victory. I have been a Petty fan ever since. In 1974 I was 16 years old, my dad and I went to the Daytona 500. We had seats near the start/finish line in the trioval. NASCAR decided to shorten that 500 to 450 miles due to the energy crisis. In many areas, gasoline was hard to come by. That 1974 Dodge Charger with those STP red stripes coming over the Petty Blue roof and hood made that car stand out on the track. You could spot the #43 easily. Richard battled Donnie Allison #88 for a while but in the end Petty took the victory. Timmy, you should be very proud of the way that you’re restoring this famous race car. Making every effort to bring it back in the same manner that your dad and the Petty Enterprises shop would have put it together. The preservation of these legendary relics is some of the most important work one could undertaken for the history of the sport. I can’t wait to see and hear more about this rebuild project.
I’d LOVE one of those Rays cups y’all are drinking out of. My dad took us to a Rays here in Wilson, NC I might have been 5!! Seriously I want one please give me info!
How do you put wedge heads on a Hemi block? I didn't think that was possible. Seems like the head gasket would be a problem. Would the bolt holes line up?
As always happy Monday, are you all going to put the trick duct work between the grill and radiator? Is the oil in the trunk or up front ? I love it keep it up. Have a blessed week.
I would love to see more videos about this restoration. I just want to double check. Did I hear you correctly, front disc brakes but nothing on the rear?
Kind of sad. If I remember correctly they got caught with that oversize engine. After that Petty’s kind went downhill after that. At 1 time they was always a huge threat to win the show it was like them Wood Brothers or Jr Johnson team. Top 3 biggest threat to bet on the track. Many years ago.
I would’ve wanted the correct race winning type engine the hemi is cool but doesn’t make sense maybe car show zombies will like it but I’m like these guys I’d rather it be right
Timmy this video (part 2 of 2) might be of interest to you. Starting at 25:00 supposedly lots of Petty stuff. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rHFvc7Uqgtc.html
