Great video, I have a '75 CB500T engine inside a '72 CB450 frame. It was a basket case that I resurrected and I'm happy to say is back on the road. The timing chain was the hardest part to get sorted and aligned correctly. Keep up the great videos. Cheers

Aah my first bike was red CB 450 absolutely loved it. Had absolute ball on this machine . Front brake and one cyl didn't work in the rain. Chewed thru swinging arm bushes . Always fished broken bits of cam drive sprocket dampening rings out of centrifugal oil filter . But oh so many great times wish I had room in the garage for another one.

Man I had insomnia the last few nights I found your video last night, you are a wizard! I love that you bring back a better time. I lived thru this time it goes so fast. Back then everything was made to last. I guess the CEOS died off and the next generation was greedy. Nothing today is close to the quality of the things made then. Honda is a great example you do a wonderful job with the resurrection. I have subscribed thank you

I had two of them (in succession) in my late teens. The were probably late 60s models - drum brakes and no chrome on the tanks. I loved the sound and excellent power for a 450. There were a few issues though :- I found to my surprise that if you maxed it out (indicated 115 mph) and then tried to stop in a hurry, the brakes would fade to nothing by the time you got down to 60. Que frantic down changes and the back wheel skipping around. Very exciting. It was also prone to getting a speed wobble when it was in the mood. Also the roller big end bearings were not durable - had to change cranks several times, but maybe because it spent most of its time at or sometimes over the red line. But I would still love to have one now.

One thing that did not really work on the CB450, was the electric starter. In front of the motor, with a chain connected to the crankshaft. I had several engine failures, caused by the pinion on the crankshaft. The screws on it came loose, and ruined the whole motor. You should either remove the chain, and the pinion attached to it, thats what i did, or use glue to fix that screws...

Honda built these with intentions of racing it against mid weight british bikes in road racing. That valve design allowed the engines to run higher revs than other bikes in the period.. I did a restomod on one of these. I found charging system and super stiff rear shocks were biggest issues that made these the underdogs. They race these a lot in Japan. -cagrisayin

OMG, what a flashback. My first "big" bike was a CB450. Bought it when I was 16. Let me give you some warnings though. It doesn't handle well. Once while riding at about 50mph, I hit a deep manhole cover and my steering went VIOLENTLY from side to side, and I thought I was about to die. Miraculously I managed to recover. Took it from San Jose to Yosemite, and a few other shorter road trips. It vibrates so much your hands literally go numb and you have to stop once in a while just to get the blood flowing properly in your hands. Eventually I sold it, and the guy I sold it to ate it on a corner and nearly died. Then I repo'd it (he never paid in full) and sold it to a friend who PROMISED not to put it on the road. Of course he did, and, with no helmet, hit a small rick or something and he lost it like I nearly did and he DID go over and also nearly died. Sorry but I DO NOT recommend riding this bike. Amazing condition though and it had decent power for a 450.
@oilinmyblood3906
@oilinmyblood3906 3 года назад
I have a feeling that those people that you sold the bike to that ate it were not riding that bike within their limits and the bikes limits of course too, everyone's got to remember these bikes are almost 50 years old and some are even older like the 1965 cb450 black bomber, and they are not going to handle like a modern sports bike, anyone that rides needs to ride within their limits not flying down the street and trying to take a corner as quick as you can on a 50 plus year old motorcycle, these bikes are as safe as you want them to be, as long as everyone rides within their limits and of course the bikes, but of course some upgrades will be needed like tapered roller steering bearings and new brass swing arm bushings are a must for better handling
@need100k
@need100k 3 года назад
@@oilinmyblood3906 - you are correct, but only somewhat. Like the dude I first sold it to went too deep into a curve and hit some gravel which caused him to lose it. However, my own experience and that of my friend proved that the bike was highly unstable if you hit an obstacle. Hitting a manhole that was under 2 inches below grade should not have caused my front end to violently swing back and forth. Do some research.
@oilinmyblood3906
@oilinmyblood3906 3 года назад
@@need100k brother believe me when I say I researched these motorcycles every single day, I own three cb750's and a cb450, I'm wondering if your steering neck bearings were shot or something, because they are not supposed to handle like that, if the bike is really nice and tight with no Loose Ends like loose steering neck bearings or your swing arm bushings are shot and worn out that will definitely make the ride much more unstable, but they do handle very well if everything is nice and tight and has good swing arm bushings, it sucks you had one that wasn't a good Rider, if you were in Anaheim I can let you ride mine
@need100k
@need100k 3 года назад
@@oilinmyblood3906 - The bike had under 15k miles on it and I did check it after that manhole incident. I live in Hawaii now, but just returned from San Jose 2 days ago. I was in San Diego in October. If I'm down that way again I might take you up on your offer. As I had mentioned, I rode mine to Yosemite and it felt like a decent handling bike. So I would say it's only when you hit an obstacle that it became unstable.
@oilinmyblood3906
@oilinmyblood3906 3 года назад
@@need100k yeah dude right on! if you're ever around Orange County hit me up, my cb450 has 10,500 or 10,600 miles, pretty low mileage, man that's cool as hell you live in Hawaii!! Be safe out there bud...

Hi Taylor, I’ve heard that these bikes (CB750, 500, 550, 400) that are esentially the same have charging problems when they run a electronic ignition, and this is because their alternator does not generate enough power for the additional energy that it demands. I personally own a CB750 K5 with electronic ignition and, precisely, this is my problem if I do not ride the bike at more than 3.5Krpm, but sometimes in the traffic this is not possible and at the next try electronic starter does not run the bike. I need to use the kick starter. Have you experienced something like this?
