This gorgeous 1974 Maserati Bora 4.9L - (Chassis #630) is a wonderful example of a documented and fully matching numbers European sports car. The Maserati Bora is a mid-engine two-seat coupe that was manufactured from 1971 to 1978. In common with other Maserati cars of the era, it is named after a wind, Bora being the wind of Trieste. During the entire production run a total of only 564 were built. Of those, 289 were equipped with 4.7L engine and 275 were equipped with 4.9L engine. This example is one of the 275 built with the 4.9L V8 engine which makes it highly collectable. The official Maserati Spa paperwork declares chassis #630 was manufactured in August of 1973. It had a “Celeste Chiaro” (Light Blue) Salchi code 106A20 exterior and a “Blue” leather Connoly code PAC.1545 interior. It was equipped with “Fuse” Campagnolo rims and a ZF 5-speed manual gearbox. It was delivered new through Maserati Automobiles in Los Angeles, CA. In 2012, it was registered in California. In 2015, the owner commissioned a professional restoration with well-known JML Restorations located in Santa Barbara, CA. The restoration started in May of 2015 and was completed in January of 2020. As the Payment Statement documents the total cost of the restoration was $178,672.07.
The exterior is simply stunning with its unique design featuring a wedge-shaped profile styled by Italdesign’s Giorgetto Giugiaro. Additional design elements include a brushed stainless-steel roof and A-pillars and hydraulically deployed pop-up headlights. During the recent restoration the front marker lights were also removed for a smooth appearance. The body was re-finished in its original color of Light Blue which looks beautiful. Unlike many Maserati Boras this example retains its original exterior color. The paint work is show quality throughout and was recently detailed to a brilliant shine. It appears to retain all of its original stamped glass which is in very nice condition throughout. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced. It sits on the original 15” Campagnolo cast-alloy wheels with chrome center caps. The wheels are wrapped with new Michelin XWX Radial 215-70-VR15 tires.
The interior is in beautiful condition throughout. The Bora used dual-pane glass separating it’s cabin from the engine compartment as well as a carpeted aluminum engine cap which greatly decreased the engine noise in the cabin. The upholstery was restored in its original color of Blue during the recent restoration. The dash fascia, unique styled seats and door panels are Blue while black leather covers the console and firewall. The padded steering wheel frames the Veglia Borletti gauges including a 200-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer and an oil pressure gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 11,924. A quintet of instruments to the driver’s right includes a quartz clock and gauges monitoring coolant, temperature, fuel level, oil temperature and voltage. Adjustment of the seat height, steering column and pedal box is handled via the hydraulic system. Amenities include power windows and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio with power antenna. Everything in the interior is in working order with exception of the factory original air conditioning system.
The engine compartment is nicely detailed throughout. During the recent restoration the subframe was removed and re-finished. The car is powered by its original matching numbers 4.9L V8 engine. The engine appears to be in factory original condition. The mid-mounted engine utilizes an aluminum block, aluminum cylinder heads with hemispherical combustion chambers and dual overhead camshafts on each bank. The engine is equipped the original Weber DCNF carburetors were rebuilt by MS CLASSIC CARS. The power is transferred to the rear wheels through the original matching numbers ZF five speed manual transaxle with a hydraulically operated clutch.
The undercarriage is very clean throughout. The Bora features a pressed-steel unibody chassis with a tubular subframe carrying the powertrain. The four-wheel independent suspension system incorporates double wishbones, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers and torsion bars at the front and rear. During the recent restoration the hydraulic system, suspension components and braking system was restored or replaced.

Fun fact. VW Jetta based on Golf Mk 4 in Europe was called... Bora! Super boring looking small sedan/saloon from VW compare to this Maserati legend.
