January 1, 1974 TV 8 Action News reporter Cathy Clark reports on New Year's Day in San Diego. She was busy that day covering a party at The Voyager Lounge--revelers couldn't get enough New Year's Eve so the club opened at 6am for those that wanted to keep the party going! Good times! Then it was on to the Silver Strand where the South Bay Ski Club braved 50 degree water and blocks of ice--their version of the Polar Bear Plunge. Tourism was going strong at Sea World and the zoo. Check out the water skiing dolphins! Such a treat to see San Diego 50 years ago in this newly digitized film. Enjoy!

What a surprise to see myself (Blonde working at The Voyager) on the Throwback news! My husband is also in it further along & we weren't even dating yet! I would love it if there were any Voyager employees or patrons from back then would comment--what a blast this is

Oh wow--so happy you found it! Amazing! That is my favorite thing about throwbacks--when people see themselves in them--priceless.

@@cbs8sandiego I was taking about the actual people in the story back from 1973 you gotta be 21 to drink 🍸 these people look 30+ add 51 years (my age) that makes these, folks 80 years plus The US 🇺🇸 national average if you believe the government is 76.4 years which one could conclude all or a large percentage of these people have died off already
