never owned a can am but these things were a fantasy of mine..my rich neighbor had a 125 can am and then got the 250cc version while I was riding a honda sl 70... when we were trail riding, he used to go by me like I was standing still, all the while I was being beaten to a pulp on the trails when he would effortlessly sail by with unreal suspension and power I could only dream of...these had, if I remember, about 35-37hp , which was back then, Crazy levels of power, exceeding even the all powerful cr250 hondas of that era which had 29hp

can am was 30 years a head of its time i had a 250 tnt and a 175 qualifier i miss them

I had one of these as a kid. It was so badass for a 13 year old.

Had one brand new. It was the only 250 I ever raced. My first outing was a hare scrambles. I remember hunting down my buddy on the new Yamaha TT 500, that thing wore him out. I easily took first overall. Nothing really stands out about it except the power! After that I only had open class machines.

I was able to find a complete one of these last year for cheap. I’m about to restore it. I’ve never driven one, so I’m pretty excited to get to it after watching this video👍🏻.

I was told by a can am racer that bike was the solution to a snowmobile manufactured seasonal unemployment nightmare. Excellent engine.

I've owned a C-A dealership (circa 1980), created the only Vintage CanAm website (90's - 2001), and restored several C-A's for vintage racing. This bike is a bit confusing. It's built to look like an MX-1 250. Also if the handlebars are original the V bend in the crossbar came along in 76. The bike is beautiful, but I am a CanAm purist who likes to keep them original. As a collectable, the value is ruined. But it will make a dandy vintage racer or play bike. Mike Rydman.

Never understood why the early MX bikes had down pipes..........seemed like Yamaha got it right, from the start.........I always bashed those low pipes...........Not a good place to run the exhaust on an mx beast.

My last year in high school I had the street legal TNT 125 before signal lights were needed. That thing was a rocket, I knew I'd kill myself on a 250. Now they're making electric dirt bikes? The shame.

Gary Jones won the 1974 250 National MX championship on the Can Am , not Jim Ellis. I do believe Ellis was the Supercross Championship
