I look at a Commodore Solid State Electronic Calculator, model 776M from 1975, in all it's revolutionary red LED display glory. I even try and write the word BOOBLESS, because, it's a calculator and I clearly have the mental capacity of a 7 year old idiot.

That calc is not supposed to get hot like that. Better check the battery, and inside the chassis

Chad Castagana That's exactly what I'm thinking. That's a sign of a short circuit somewhere. I wonder if he ever fixed it.

Sounds like battery leakage might be an issue there.

My first calculator was a Commodore. My first Commodore was a calculator. It had a LED display, a 9 volt battery, and used the same key pad. I don't remember mine having a memory function. Yours seems to have one, but no memory recall or cancel. It just has a key with an "M" on it.

I had a Commodore SR7919 back in the day, which got lost in a house move. I bought one of ebay recently in a nostalgic moment :) Surely you were trying to input BOOBIES / 5318008 ?
