May "GOD" Bless Nazeer Malik and Wasim Raja bothh were v good and Telented cricketers specilley Wasim Raja he was better than his brother Ramiz Raja. May their Souls rest and peace (amin)
Terrific footage from all those years ago. Some great players in both sides, many of whom played in WSC only a bit over 2years later. Cricket as it was played 50 or so years ago, opponents applauding batsmen reaching 50...unheard of these days. The great D K Lillee showing how it's done. Àll dressed in whites,no advertising on ground, plain and unadorned timber stumps, regular sized bats...the game has changed so much,as society has. Thanks for the upload 😁👍
An eerie omen of the future at 13:35 - 13:41 with Alan Turner, Jeff Thomson and Zaheer Abbas all involved in a catch off an attempted pull shot near mid on. 18 months later Thomson would collide with Turner near mid on attempting to catch Zaheer also off an attempted pull shot, dislocating his shoulder and he would never be the same bowler again.
278 was a very big score in those days. Majid and Asif both batted brilliantly but Lillie's dismissal of Asif was the turning point And further more Australian bowling was at that time the strongest in the world. I listened to live commentary of the match Majid payed a most elegant innings of 65 and after Asif took charge and with good support by Raja they added 77 in very quick time before at 181 for 4 Lillie bowled Asif for a dashing 53 and after losing the captain Pakistan just panicked and Lillie and Walker were too good for lower order batsmen
@@ishyandmikkischannel8811 yes he played him well but didnt destroy him...i my sel was listning that commentry..jeff.thomson had problem with his runup n no balls throughout worldcup
Yes I was 15 at that time and watched only the glimpses on TV but I did listened to live radio commentary. Majid Khan and Asif Iqbal both batted brilliantly but Lillie dismissed Asif who was going great and Pakistan after that just crumbled. Imran was just a novice then and Raja played a poor shot to get out. BBC has shown very few boundaries struck by Majid and Asif and they have given more footage to Australian batsmen.
I don't think so, Asif Iqubal migrated to Pakistan in 1947 or 50s when he was 3 or 4 years old but, he is Hyderabadi he was born there and Sania Mirza is Hyderabadi too but, she is Shia Muslims and Asif Iqbal is Sunni
@@ziakhan-qw9zi My dear Asif Iqbal started his cricketing career in India and he in fact played a three day match for his state Hyderabad against the touring Pakistan team in 1960-61. He migrated to Pakistan some times in the early 1960"s before making his test debut against Austraiila in 1964
Yes after a great start by Majid Khan it was Asif Iqbal who kept the hopes alive with a fighting half century and at 181 for 4 Pakistan had a good chance of winning until Dennis Lillie bowled Asif and Pakistan collapsed.. I listened to the commentary as a school boy. Nostalgic memories
In both 1975 and 1979 World cup Pak team lost the match after coming so close to victory, perhaps some wrong decision of team captain and a bit of hard luck
Goodness, all of Majid Khan's magnificent hook shots against Thomson charging in with the new ball have been left out by the BBC... All those effortless hooks for 4....no wonder Thomson started no balling non stop.
Thanks for that video clip. I would love to see all the group matches played in 1975 world cup as well as 1979 world cup, as only radio commentary was available in India in those days
@@chicagoan6342 ..i was a junior internationaiist , I played with Nazeer in club cricket in Scotland . In our club cricket many many famous cricketers were employed who we played with and against .
You should share your espncricinfo profile with us or at least me, growing up I wanted to become a fast bowler, imran Khan and Malcolm Marshall were big names back then. Thanks for replying mate, I need to visit UK.
Tattie Boy I am an American but my ancestors are from Indian subcontinent, they always watched and talked about cricket. As a matter of fact, I own a copy of Marshall’s autobiography.
India's performance in that world cup was i believe the worst. I think Gavaskar made 36 odd runs in 174 balls, a world record for slow batting on a 1 day which i believe is still unbroken!
First world cup ,. Worst position of india till1979 ,just one win ,and 1983 all know, One day T60 (then) was out come in Australia of test match play possible for only 5th day in 73/74
i wnder how people back in time used to figure out which team’s bowling or batting its hard to distinguish given both r wearing plain which cloths all over
We were cricket fanatics in those days and we as college boys can recognize Asif Iqbal, Majid Khan, Zaheer Abbas, Mushtaq Muhammad for their physique and walk even from a distance
