No Corner got burned as much as Lem the gambler. Teams completed a ton of passes on Barney with his habit of playing so far off. I saw every Lions game back in the day and nobody frustrated me more than Lem.
Though I hated the complete the process rule when it took away the TD from Megatron, I now appreciate it in that it brings a lot of clarity, consistency and eliminates much of the grey area to the catch rule. Image how often a receiver gets his hands on the ball in the end zone, to then lose it. And then we depend on goddamn officials to call it a reception or not.
Actually, in this example, I think it would be ruled a catch today. Note that he had possession, and then he moves in celebration, and then it gets knocked out. The Dez/Megatron non catches had both players falling to the ground in the process of the catch, and then the ground causes loss of control.
