Words cannot express the love we all had for Mark Fidrych in my family that incredible year of '76, all 10 of us. After the disaster for the Tigers in '75, this guy comes out of nowhere, didn't even play til the 2nd week in May, and injects such life, hope, fun, and success, I'll never forget. Such a tragedy he died the way he did, so young.
Boy you can feel the energy in a jam packed Tiger Stadium. Playoff atmosphere incredible support for the Bird, what a year he had. The crowds he drew, those people were not coming out to watch Tommy Veryzer play short! 51,822 at this game a hummed up crowd for sure! You were lucky to see it. I was 6 months old and not there obviously
You’ve made my day. First, Mark Fidrych is my childhood hero. Second, Ernie Harwell and Paul Carey are my alltime favorite radio duo. I was lucky to have grown up with them as the Tigers broadcasters. And, last, Paul Carey is from my hometown. Just an amazing color man. Underrated as hell.
Tanana, who pitched a complete game shutout against Toronto on the final day of the 1987 regular season to complete an incredible Tiger comeback and win the Division title! Larry Herndon hit a HR that barely reached the Leftfield seats in the 5th inning. I remember Garth Iorg hitting a tapper back to Tanana for the final out.
I second that, I looked for this three or four times after it was removed, I was sure that I was overlooking it somehow. Pure gold, a 1976 Mark Fidrych W delivered by Ernie and Paul, wjr commercials and all...I absolutely love it!
