A truly honest and moral man. He dedicated his life post presidency to selflessness and helping those less fortunate and in need. Not the best president, but the best ex-president.
CashPresley32 I respect your personal views, though I prefer democrats, and I am a big fans of president Jimmy Carter. Dr. Carson is a great man too, unlike other politicians, he has his own style! Wish we could elect the most suitable candidate! God bless you too, God bless USA !
Andrey Sherman So you believe in abortion and marijuana? And yes you're right, Ben Carson is a different type of politician. He is not quite Republican, though he is running on the Republican ticket, and not quite Democrat. He is more like an independent in between Democrat and Republican. That is why I think he would be the best choice for this country.
As a Conservative Republican. I feel that he was the last respectful Democrat and he was a nice guy and was someone who was very close to god. He's the opposite of all of these communist Democrats now days. I can say somethings about some of his policies but so far as his personal life no.
So TRU, you're saying that a President who cared about Human Rights, who started the EPA, who made home brewing of beer legal, who gave congress a balanced budget, who kept us out of wars, who made it legal to buy a bong in a store, who encouraged all American's to live honestly, in concert with their community, to have respect for all people's, regardless of race/religion, etc. was one the worst President? Reagan never gave Congress a balenced budget. We're still dealing witht he fallout.
I agree, It could have been one of the more closer races in history. I think Reagan could have pulled it off due to the outsider image, plus he was just a way better talker than Carter. With the integrity issue gone, Carter might not would have won because he used that against Ford with most good results. Carter mainly campaigned on ethics not the real issues, Reagan on the 76 primaries did the opposite.
I like reagan but '76 was Carter's year. Carter had the deep south locked up. Reagan could have taken Mississippi but George Wallace eventually backed Carter and so Carter would have the south and NY. Reagan would have the West inclusing Texas. Not enough. Watergate hurt republicans no matter what so that would've hurt reagan too. Lastly, Reagan's political philosophy was still to close to Goldwater's in many eyes outside of the republican party in '76. '80 was Regan's Year. Glad he won then.
Ehh I realize that now about Reagan, he was too early. I still find it an interesting what if if he ran though. Carter's campaign was just not ran that good, he focused too much on being an outsider with morals and not enough on the issues. He did some ads about Welfare but that was not much. Ford ran more of an average campaign that focused on the issues, and I consider his to be better. If there would have been a few more days Ford could have won, it just came down to Ohio.
E.G. Marshall [ NOT a "Southerner," but a "liberal" Minnesota native](who also did ads for Humphrey in 1968), narrating. So, we "got" Kennedy as President, because Kennedy was a Catholic, Carter and Clinton, because they were Southerners, Obama (like it or not!), because "Kenya-born" Obama was Black, etc. (Maybe we'll "get" Hillary, because "She is a woman," but I doubt it!) Whatever happened, to electing Presidents (and others), based on their merits?
When are "we" going to elect e.g. a Rastafarian as U.S. President, similar to the "novelty factor," in electing, e.g., Kennedy (Catholic), Carter and Clinton (Southerners--ignoring that we had already elected Virginia-born Woodrow Wilson [NOT my favorite President!] in 1912, when people still alive remembered the Civil War), Obama (half "Black"/half "White", and with one foreign-born parent), maybe Hillary in 2016 (female)?Or, we can elect people based on the issues, and stop having U.S. Presidents, etc., as world-class "Celebrities", while our domestic society steadily deteriorates (similar to e.g. the U.K. in the the 1950's---a Country which may well itself break up after the May 7, 2015 General Elections!).
If you look for honesty in politics you'll always be disappointed. I'm sure I would've voted for him but it just didn't work. I've always respected the Jimmy Carter of that era. What's important is if they believe in what they say they want to do. They MUST also, for all its faults, love America. That's not nationalism, it's common sense. I love, love, love Rosalynn Carter.
I think Carter is a good man who tried to do what he thought was right. However, he is widely considered to be one of the worst Presidents in American history. As much as I like the man, I’m glad Reagan won four years later.
