Tire "butter" or tire grease as its known by most as will not only help the bead seat from air escaping but acts as a lubricant as well. Its great for corrored bead locks on wheels and damaged beads on tires too for getting a seal. It's saved many people especially when an unexpected rapid decompression happended to someone in my income bracket at the time. A mounted and balanced tire for $25 made many's day including my own.
I'm watching in England ... I don't have a Z, never had one, got no plan to find one, but very interesting and looking forward to next episode! Thank You.
Im so old I remember the Empco 225/75R-15 and could not believe they were DOT approved. They looked like a 15 inch snowblower tire from Chy-na. Only mounted one set to get someone through inspection on a fixed income. Your rim clamp tire machine for some reason briught some memories back.
When we mounted tires in the 60s we put a special made very supple rubber tube between the tire and rim. As the tire inflated the rubber tube would walk itself outward and self extract itself.
You did not show it but I presume you did balance them🤣. You just have to many toys to play with. I bet you had fun drifting the Z out in the field . Thanks for sharing stay safe.
I was always jealous of my neighbor back in the day who drove a 280z. Glad you did not use that hack where they spray something flammable and 'explode' the tire onto the bead. Very dangerous.
I had a 280Z, bought it brand new and loved it but when it came to getting new tires it was really sensitive to what tires I put on, any thing other than HR rated tires diminished the handling ability of the car but if you are driving off road it wouldn’t matter.
Those lens covers look so good. Datsun should have made them standard. Excellent new rear fenders. But why do I think those Bridgestones remind me of all season.
They would get condensation inside the lens which would lead to algae, mold, dirt ect building up on the inside of the lens making the headlights too dim to be safely used.
@@ThisWeekWithCars Plus, running the lights while there's still condensation in there will result in a diffused beam of light that will dazzle oncoming drivers.
To think that this Datsun 280 Z was 'junk' it has really come a long way. Great idea to put the blocks on the tyres. It seems to drive well but a test in a rally will give you some feedback as to which way to go so again a good idea to enter it now. Thanks Steve, those wheels look good. 👍👍
Good tire manufacturers balance the tire itself before shipping and mark the lightest spot on the tire so matching that to where your valve stem should get you to the closest possible balance before you put on your weights, this is of course if you wheel is not bent or damaged.
