Such a shame that half of the corps present that night no longer exist

It was great, being able to glance at each uniform and know exactly what Drum & BUGLE Corps you were looking at. Now, when you look at the leotards, fishnet stockings, and makeup, one can’t tell what they’re looking at. And it’s a shame because the talent of the present groups is incredible!

The beginning of what can be called a "super dynasty."

I was fortunate to be in the crowd that night. My corps, Marquis, took 16th (we beat Blue Stars, Guardsmen, AND Phantom that season, but our staff didn't know how to get us to peak when it mattered. I was sitting on the backside at the end of the DCI Championships banner. When BD came on, they covered up "hip" (11:05) with a blanket (or something else??), but they didn't have enough material to cover the "s". I let them use my corps jacket even though I was a Madison fan! I like to think I was a small part of BD's win.😎

I cut my teeth on the album with BD and three other corps on it.Four years later I was marching DCI. What memories. Thanks for sharing a bit of the past. Spirit 1980

1976....my first year of marching band. Drum Corp was always a dream to me. I love these old uniforms, equipment like its supposed to be. Nowadays, the flags are so short, they cant even twirl them. And in most high school bands, rifles are non existent. You might have 20 horns 4 drums, and 50 dance line.

Always liked the stiff cross-armed attitude from the drum majors.

An absolute beast was unleashed that day.

Back in the day, prelims and finals happened on the same day.

Remembering the Drum Corps International Chanpionships during KPBS' Pledge Campaigns in 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1985, 1986, 1988, 2000!!

Awesome ... it was so nice to see the spontaneous reaction of the first time ever Championship for the Blue Crew!

That's a lot of hair in the BD rifle line. My favorite year for Blue Devils.

How rude and disrespectful can BD be. They start jumping around when Madison is called...RUDE! And BD's drum major starts walking forward before his corps name is called. Arrogant and RUDE!
