Stay tuned for an insightful comparison of two of the last full-size Oldsmobile hardtops: a 1976 98 Regency and a 1975 Delta 88 Royale. We will fire up both 455s at the same time and talk interior/exterior design and features. And, Marc is back!

That’s classic in true form. Love these cars. Somebody mentioned the wire wheel covers. They used to be a vibration nightmare for those of us in the tire industry. They were so heavy that in many cases we had to spin balance the tires with hubcaps on right on the car with an old Schildemire wheel balancer. When we increased the speeds beyond estimated 60-70 mph they would literally change shape as the g’s increased. Ah the good old days. But still they were great days with great cars, issues not withstanding. Looking forward to the comparison.

My Grandpa had one of those. Same year. You never heard the engine inside. The entire car would just lift up, and you'd watch the gas gauge dive towards EMPTY as the speedo went the other direction.

Part of my fascination with the 1971-76 GM full-size models was the engineering required to accommodate the styling. The long, very articulated (driver side) wiper arm, the fascinating Glide-Away tailgate, and especially the maneuvering of the windows to navigate both the tumblehome and the massive half-B-pillar on the four-door hardtops. When lowered, the front door glass slides radically forward and actually cants out at the top, taking it out of plane with the corresponding back window. And of course the sill plates under the doors are canted out, and the interior door locks lean in. Even the frame under the car was chamfered on the lower outer edge rather that being a simple C or box section. Only a Boeing product had a stronger fuselage orientation.

I think people forget these GM B and C bodies were rolling testbeds for new technology.....the 1973 Impalas were field testing the new airbag technology..using an Olds dashboard...If you watch the later episodes of Seinfeld, Kramer was driving one. Then from 1974 to 1976, they were offered as an option on the full size Buick, Olds, Cadillac models...but were priced such the take rate was low...and the option was dropped when the GM77 cars came out.

I've always been impressed at how much the square headlights changed the look of this car. Honestly, the front clip wouldn't really change from that basic look on many GM, ford, and Chrysler cars for almost 15 years. And understandably- it's a clean and distinguished look.

I just love those squarish early-to-mid '70s GM headlight bezels wrapped around round bulbs. Round headlights for the win, usually! The white four door must be a '76 - look at how much its grills and headlights, and the whole header panel, resemble that of the downsized '77-'80whatever 88s and 98s.

I'm looking forward to this comparison, as generally speaking I find these cars fascinating and depressing all at once. Various aspects of the design of each GM make's "standard" size cars are wonderful, but the execution and cost cutting are often just so half-assed and cynical. And, we Americans bought them by the tens of thousands.

If you have any autos with the AIR (smog) pump. I would love to have you give a detailed explanation of the system, what they were trying to achieve with it and the possible positive and negative effects it had on engine performance. Also, your opinion if some one currently has this equipment, whether to keep it functioning or just remove the whole system. Keep up all the great work. P.S. my '72 Cadillac Coupe de Ville in New York had the smog pump.

When I see a 1976 Olds Ninety Eight, I see a Cadillac, or a Buick. Subtle changes to the exterior did not conceal they were all the same car. I looked at the history of Oldsmobile and I like the 1969 Ninety Eight and the 1969 Delta 88. No "cow catcher" bumpers.

Funny I had a 70 Tornado that had as much power as those two 455’s in one 455 ;-) They were nice driving cars (my dad bought a new big olds every two years through that era). They were let down by smog, safety and bumper standards along with poor assembly and component quality.

Even more reason to preserve the remaining rare classic cars albeit they are becoming less affordable as daily drivers. These cars are a part of our history and from a time when America was still a great country and lead the World. We have lost a lot of what made us unique . I drove these cars and owned some of them when I was young and I am happy to see someone like Adam and other enthusiasts keep these cars preserved. Adam thank you for this channel and keeping these cars alive and please continue to do what you are doing.
