Whooooa what a beautiful car, 1 of my many favorites. The 1970s Firebirds are my 1st choice if i could pick one. Formula Firebird or Trans-Am model. Ram Air & a 3 piece deck lid to quarter panel spoiler....delux interior...4 spd stk...Good luck with it. Keep it as is. Me a ( 80s fox body mustang gt) owner.
I JUST bought a ‘77 Black and Gold T/A. Tan interior and a hardtop. Built 403 with Holley Fuel Injection. It is a BEAUTIFUL car! I’ve owned several Firebirds in my day,and this one is BY FAR the best one yet. I LOVE the ‘76 birds too…that would have been my SECOND choice!
Very nice car ,dont see much of that color of interior in a 76. Engine very clean. The engine is wrong color for 76. The 75,76 and a few early 77 were a darker blue than your engine is.Pontiac changed engine colors every few years.I have had my 76 Trans Am 455 since 1979.
Back in the late 80s, I was a teenager living in L.A. in college in search of a '78 or '79 TA. Before computers, we only had print-based ads to find cars, and I perused the L.A. Times, Daily News, and once a week, on Thursday, the Recycler (all kinds of things for sale, but mostly cars, cars and more cars) went up for sale. I forgot which place the ad was from (probably L.A. Times) there was a '76 TA for sale. I showed up to a place in the east San Fernando Valley that was an office building that was rented out for independent entertainment production companies. I found the office the guy gave me and he took me out to the car for a test drive. California car (I assume) with a 400/auto (that was all we got in Cal.). Nice condition, but $4500. Most really nice cars at the time, the '78s and '79s, were in the $2500 to $3000 range, with some of the more beaten up cars in the $1000s range, and the nicer ones were up to $5k (a 10th anniversary edition with a real 400/4-speed) He wouldn't budge on the price because he felt it was worth more having been used in their production. I passed on it and ended up with a beat up 1978 that I paid $1100 for. Edit: the movie was 'Twice Dead' with Todd Bridges (the actor who also played Willis Drummond in the TV show 'Diff'rent Strokes'. I believe his character drove the TA in the film which was a straight to VHS horror film. You can see the car very briefly in this trailer for the film but the movie is available here on RU-vid (it might be the only movie to feature a 1978 TA...) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y0Fq06FpPtw.html
I remember when I was in High School a guy who had one of these. He did some work to it, but I am unsure what all was done. I know that it had different rear gears, headers, intake, carb, and a higher performance yet streetable camshaft. He later on put a 5 speed into it. I don't if it was a swap or he just put a new one into it. He did keep all of the parts removed in a garage where they wouldn't be damaged. He had a lot of cars, most of them were forever projects that would never run again. EDIT: It was a 400 CID. He also had a supercharger but he never put it on, I think it needed bits and pieces to probably make it work.
Love it...had a 79 looked just like that inside and out....color scheme.....sold it last month... My only suggestion; change them rims to the original style , honeycomb or snowflake....go ahead and spend a little more and take it to the top...
Ahh your on long island. The radio station. I showed my son shifting is not hard. I great shot maybe from the back showing the road as well if possible. I think I seen two. Many young fellow many not realize how much more fun it is with these cars. I guess that could be a food thing. Ha ha
I had a 81 Firebird, with most of the trans-am features, including dash and plate, but I am curious what that switch is beside the defogger toggle, on this year. On mine it was a built in toggle switch factory radio booster. I never seen another one in the Trans-Ams or Firebirds. It was always a double plate, with one toggle switch only (defogger)
Dear God you were riding the fuck out of that clutch. Anyways sweet ride. Looks good in all black. I have a 76 TA too and its almost back on the road. What exhaust are you running? It sounds too restrictive to me, can't hear the cam at all.
Yeah, there's a guy up the street from me that wants to sell me some sort of Firebird that's pretty solid, has a 350 in it for 75 hundred. It's this body style except it's the year with that hideous front end, bummer!
