John s clean tone was decent but the moment the distorsion kicked in the sound became amazing. Funnly enough i m working on the bedroom lick these days ,trying to get it down. Your video on it has been rlly helpful so thx :)
Brilliant video, very well presented and demonstrated, and of course your playing really makes it all happen. You’re welcome as always, anything that makes you happy makes me happy.
I can remember playing through the amazing 100watt SS Vox nicknamed "The Blizzard of Nails". This was the one with the infamous MRB circuitry. If you had an assistant to turn the knob it became a gisnt Wah Wah! I loved that amp but couldn't pry it away from the owner. It was crazy really with some controls on the front some on the top of the head - don't forget it was over 6 foot tall (of seemed it) with a complete chrome, Exo Skeleton. Those were the days alright... Best, Pete.
Great video Dave, thanks for showing why some of us players gravitate to Vox, there is just something about the vox that you cant get from any other amp. So once again thank you!
The "Blues" were/are the best (Vox Valvetronic AD60VT and AD120VT). Fantastic amps and the best cooperation between VOX and KORG ever !!!. Still got my AD60VT and i ain't selling it, ever. Not selling my Marshall MG100 HDFX either 🙂
That would of been perfect for Saturday night as that room at the priory was a little tiny, great set though especially the tribute of little wind to your friend. You guys really are a tight set up,I think another road trip is coming when you next release some energy & volume on the unsuspecting public😜❤️
Just got one for 70£ 😅😅 all stock, only the fuse had to be replaced. This was so helpful, and as a”pedal guy” this really helped med figur out what to do 👍👍👍 Thanks alot Dave !
These older solid state Vox amps are just fantastic. I have a 60s Pathfinder V1011 and it's incredible for what it is. 30w combo with an 8" speaker and it has just a beautifully voiced clean tone and by far my favorite tremolo circuit. I only wish it had a speaker out jack so i could connect a 1x12 as well
Hello Dave, thanks for amazing video! I have questions to you. I have option to buy for same price Vox AC30 solid state 1978 with fane repro or Vox AC30 solid state reverb 1979 with Celestion G12-30 repro . I am not able to find any info about solid state reverb Vox so I am confused. Thanks :)
I had, I think, the later 'upgraded' version that you mention. It was definitely louder, but always sounded a bit bland, all the more so because someone I knew had a '65 AC30 valve with the fabled blue speakers. But you're right about the relative paucity of pedals in those days. As an amp on its own, it seemed characterless.
I love these things. I have four of them that I picked up in lockdown. odd about the volume though? I run mine at half vol in a band with two drummers and another guitarist and it keeps up. Also have one with a reverb too. Maybe you should try mine as mine also does that Queen break up thing when on full tonk.
There actually a word for that "toneless" thing you would say, Dave, and remember this: " It is not euphonic. I have some euphonic amplifiers over here like the Orange Crush....." Best, Pete.
36:23 LOL. Many You tubers do blind tone tests to guess which amplifier it is... Dave has now come up with the blind vintage amplifier SMELL test. Oh yes... make this HAPPEN. hahahahaha
I have a 2003 vox Cambridge 30 watts hybrid amp (valve pre amp) once I had had the known issue sorted it was a great amp. I wonder if you had some of the electronics replaced as they might have gone bad it might be louder.
