Damn if I didn't know your reputation better I would've bailed before the end because it really was looking like an episode of "Vise Grip Garage". I kept expecting it to backfire and catch fire! Pretty raw video but its always nice to see you working on any C3. Thanks for posting these!
@@TheCorvetteBen Every big youtuber has people that don't like them, the bigger you get the more haters you get even if it's only 1% of the people who have watched it adds up.
That is an impressive collection of parts ‘Vettes that you have there. I have said before, thank you for making Corvettes more accessible to the average person. A gen 3 is definitely a good starting point for someone who is not exactly made of money. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Engine looks like a early/mid 90's chevy small block. Valve covers had bolts in the center and oil dipstick on the passenger side. Probably has 2 bolt mains and one piece rear main seal. I rebuilt one of those motors once on an 85 GMC Sierra pickup. Nice motor. Not an LS but better than the 305's and those 70's sbc's. Wish I lived down there. I'd be like, hey Ben can I come by and browse? Lol Edit: I also ran a mechanical Edelbrock fuel pump on that style engine block I had. It had a block off plate I took off and put a fuel pump in it. Originally the truck it came out of would've had an electric fuel pump and fuel injection. Worked fine with a carbueretor.
I am glad for the new videos, thank you. someday I may ship you my 73 to finish the heat and AC and redo the instrumentation. I would drive it there but, it's a long way from PA to TX
I actually really like this car, I would put flares on it for the wide body look and wouldn’t be cutting up a nice Corvette in the process. It’s a real shame I don’t have a garage to work on any cars
Really missed seeing your videos while you were moving your shop, but it looks like you now have the shop features that you have needed for a long time. Hope that you will resume making videos like you always have. You are a great automotive technician.
that is a race car, Hoosier tires a great short track car you don't need a title..fix it up a little, tow it to events and race lol ! And it ran out of the box lol
I was waiting for the “Let’s feed ‘er some onions and let ‘er rip” as you proceed to do donuts in the back forty. That would be a great “reel” and “short” but regardless still an awesome video Ben! 💪🏼
I’ve got a late model 77 and in 1999 I bought a turn signal / wiper switch for $89.00 from the local Chevy dealer. The switch works great. You just have to be very conscious of what you were doing with it when actuating it.
Those newer style engines do not support a manual fuel pump, so therefore you must run a electric fuel pump. - But I'm sure you already knew that - I just sold a noisy old blue one just like yours only with side pipes - My neighbors cheered when it left the hood
concerning the salvage title, not all states require a title for older vehicle you could see if anyone wants the thing whole before you part it out... just a thought
In the beginning I was a fan of VGG but lately he has become a celebrity, money conscious, the old bits of personality come less frequently now. He goes to burnout contests with cleetus who is the root of all corruption in YT car content. Keep following your own compass and you'll be fine.
Here's to betting the steering column switch is already sold. lol Quite a shame that this car has a salvage title, would have been a decent fixer-upper otherwise. At least it has a ton of good parts and a working engine/drivetrain. Have any other cars on the lot that would be a decent roller chassis to build out?
I bet there is a good corvette in Ben's field of broken dreams (assemble a good car out of the dead car parts)--call it the Frankenstein Vette. Sure it's a lot of work but the fans like it and YT pays the bills, no? Let the fans solve the problems of licensing it.
My dad has an 81 with only 76000 miles on it. He has neglected it and it has been under a tarp in the driveway for a long time. He is fighting cancer. I figured I'd try to get it going but the hood wont open. The cable wont pull, it seems all jammed up. I am wondering if that is why it was parked in the first place. Hopefully there's a video showing how to go about fixing it. I am hoping its not too bad but I'm sure there will be curse words. Thank you for your work! I am trying to learn what I can about these old cars.
Salavage titles are fine if you intend to keep the car. I have the one corvette I want to I can’t put money into a car that will have zero resale value
@@TheCorvetteBen, I totally understand. I had a 56 Chevy Bel Air four-door last year that I got for a little bit of nothing. I cleaned the body up on it found out that the floors were rust free- West Nebraska car. But the engine was toast even though it was the original block. I wasn't in any position to want to tear into the engine so I was able to double my money on the car so I just moved it down the road and then use that money towards a two-door hardtop that I'm working on right now. Got you XL wheelchair on my Galaxie. Big fan base in Nebraska!
BEN, I HAVE A TORCH RED 1977 CORVETTE, WITH 117000 MILES ON IT. I KEEP IT WELL MAINTAINED,DO NOT ABUSE IT, MANY NEW PARTS, ABOUT 15000 IN REPLACEMENT PARTS, UPGRADES,HOOKER HEADERS ... HOW MANY MILES SHOULD I GET FROM THIS ENGINE, BEFORE HAVING TO REPLACE IT. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS RUSS.
Hi Russ, I also have a red 77, bought it at a junk yard and spent 18000 on parts, did all the work myself, first time. Sure would be great if we could swap picks. Wayne, Manchester NH
@@waynecarter6651 i had my work done by a mechanic who specialises in ,new brakes, new wiring,shocks,classics.17000 dollars of upgrades and replacement parts.everything from hooker headers, flow master racing exhaust, edlebrock high performance intake
this looks like a Mike Finnegan roadkill dirt track special, I mean you oughta hit him up and see if he'll take it, also that has gotta have 14 inch wide rims on it, as that is pretty weak if the things cant even take 10's or 12's without having them stick out that bad, actually more to the point what the hell did they even come off of?
I have a 1981 corvette this past Monday it just burst into flames it’s been setting for 5 days and started at the very front ??? I will have to part it out and I am disheartened because I built this thing from the ground up
Hi Ben: Question. What's the scoop on Blue vs. Orange engines in '77 I have a 77 vette and the engine is blue and I know it's original. The one is this video at least has an orange intake. Was it swapped along the way?
From what I understand they changed the color in 1977 from orange to blue I’ve got a late model 77 with a stock engine and it’s blue. I checked the date codes on the block and intake manifold.
Dont you have a clean title laying around for one of them other cars that you can fadangle and presto ala cazam…..wink wink, not to sell or rip off anyone of course, but just for personal closure😂…….its a shame to part her out considering she literally started herself!!! …..can a 6’3” man fit comfortably in a c-3 i would like to find a chrome bumper vette butt i hear their not tall guy friendly and a c-2 is kinda not in the budget….might have to go c-7 but not a fan of the dierect injection so do i settle for a dated c-6 with a trusty LS or get the chrome bumper c-3 and put the seat directly on the floor……whats your opinion/ thoughts??…..i really like the thought of a ‘68/‘73 supercharged LS vette to compliment my LSA supercharged LS nova and centrifugal supercharged LS c10…….man i need to escape communist california, and live it up in a emmisions free state and live out my chevy dreams!!! Anything 1975 and older goes for an arm and leg here, literally, you guys down south have the luxury of stuffing whatever you wish into any ‘70s-‘80s shitbox and making it great again!! Keep doing ❤ what you love , we appreciate these awesome videos and your deep rooted love of these awesome machines!!!
Who cares about salvage title? A cheep project for us who can't afford a good title car, honestly I have had even one of my own cars written off and rebuilt....just never have full value ...does that make sense?
100% incorrect. Why would the state provide a way to get a bonded title on vehicles without titles? How else are you supposed to come into possession of a car without one? Give them all away. People buy and sell cars without titles all the time. Poster at the dmv even says so a title check on missing title cars.
@@TheCorvetteBen In Maine, all one needs is a bill of sale if the car is older than 1995. If the car is declared salvage, it can be restored and registered as "rebuilt".
My impulse purchase was a 1967 Chevelle! See it at @nespro6521 I saved it from Bernardston auto wrecking drove 1400 miles to Boston to get it Steve Magnante’s video led me to buying it He called it the Silent Malibu should I keep the name?
