Dave Hamble, from Sawtell near Coffs Harbour, is a transport allocator with a local earthmoving business and has a passion for truck restoration. His latest project, a 1977 K125 Kenworth, was discovered lying dormant under a tree for 12 years in Victoria. The truck was originally part of Intermobile’s fleet, and Dave has poured his skills into renewing it. He tastefully repainted the chassis and ball bar, opting to preserve the cab’s original colours. This restoration project has a sentimental angle as Dave’s father, Glenn Hamble, used to run trucks for Glenn’s Refrigerated Transport and had a soft spot for Kenworths. With plans to eventually refinish the truck in his father’s favoured colors of green and white, Dave aims to strike a balance between renewal and historical preservation.
The truck has retained much of its original character, including its torsion bar suspension and Garrison power steering. Dave has fine-tuned these elements to improve the vehicle’s overall ride. The motor, a VT903 Cummins, rebuilt years ago, remains in excellent condition. Dave has also revamped the cooling system and brakes, ensuring that the truck is not just a showpiece but is good to go anywhere. As someone who appreciates the value of historical authenticity, Dave plans to keep the truck as a cherished part of the family collection. He regularly takes it to local clubs and events, particularly enjoying meet-ups in Brisbane, and relishes the sense of community among fellow enthusiasts. With an eye on future improvements but satisfied with the current progress, Dave sees the truck as both a living piece of history and a tribute to his father.
