FAB washing powder is a product formerly owned by Colgate-Palmolive in Australia. The company sold its Australian laundry detergents and prewash brands to Henkel AG & Company, KGaA in May 2015.
During the 1970s a series of television commercials were created around a female shopper, sometimes referred to as Betty, who always had a box of FAB in her basket.
In the spots a man would engage her in conversation, refer to the box of FAB and state how his wife always used it to keep his shirts white. A lemon would then pop from the box and then the location would be filled with fresh lemons.
Shendelle Franklin played the shopper with actors including Garry McDonald cast opposite. The commercials were initially filmed in black & white and then colour from 1975.
This tvc features Leyland Atlantean double decker bus number 1020 operated by NSW Public Transport Commission, later the Urban Transport Authority, in Sydney.
Andrew Heslop commenced his career at 5DN 972 in 1985.
