Who would bet for the colts in that contest either straight up or point margin ?? The colts were terrible in 78 and Pittsburgh really wanted to avenge their 77 regular season loss to the colts thus anybody betting for the colts in any capacity in this contest was just in a festive holiday mood to lose money !

Watching the Steelers in that era, as often as I could with the TV scheduling, it was apparent that Terry Bradshaw was a premiere QB. My contemporaneous memories of the Terry Bradshaw era in Pittsburgh are that he was highly-capable with a constitution, seemingly, made of steel.

Curt Gowdy was describing Bradshaw and how he turned and threw on that quick WR screen. While it was remarkable, the tork placed on Bradshaws arm eventually caught up with him later as his throwing motion would be the main reason why his elbow pretty much exploded, ending his career in 1983 very prematurely. Its the exact same thing plaguing Big Ben today, as his career hangs in the balance. Ben, for years extended plays, and would wind up throwing long tough passes against his weight, placing all the forces of tork against his elbow. It would be a shame if Big Ben career came to a end like that. But in football, tje things that make you great are the things that causes you to hang 'em up. Like a RB that loves to cut back by putting his foot down heavy and cutting ala Gayle Sayers, Adrian Peterson, Fred Taylor, etc...Its their style and we love it, but eventually will catch up to them.

@@edpinkerton7947 Bradshaw was 35 when he hung up the Black n Gold. Roger Staubach was 38 and was got teenage Lioned out by Tom Landry. Bob Gresie was 38 also, Fran Tarkenton 38. Bradshaw no doubt if his elbow was good, would have at least played til 38. It wasn't the shots with Bradshaw, it was the elbow only. Take away the arm and the body dies, its that simple.

Spryfol II don’t get it twisted. Huge Bradshaw fan. Wish my bears would have won the coin flip in 69. But #12 would have been out of the league by 76 if they did. Pittsburgh was in decline by 83 and Bradshaw would have soiled his legacy if he had played 3 more years. Much like Namath with the rams. Who btw played his last game against the beloved on MNF in 77

The Steelers were good period but they were especially good in bad weather. Bradshaw his backs and tight ends were sure-footed. Even the receivers stayed up and had enough experience catching Bradshaws hard passes, the cold weather didn't bother them like it seemed to other receiving corps in the league. The line gave Bradshaw a chance to throw anywhere. On defense, those linebackers and line were made to play in this stuff.

@@TexasNewsOwL I'm from Texas, a life long Cowboys fan but the one team I didn't mind losing to was the steelers. Franco Harris and Rocky Blier great backs, Blier with half his foot blown off in Nam, and Bradshaw was always playing banged up. Tough players from a tough era. I remember this game, I was 19 and this was the best era in NFL history. Bert Jones would have beat the steelers if he had been healthy but this was the beginning of the end for his career, and Staubach with all his concussions, Denvers Craig Morton best passer I ever saw but no knees left. I watched him try to hobble away from the steelers pass rush very sad. Same thing with Namath. They traded him to the Rams and I watched his last game. He made it through about the first quarter throwing beautiful passes but if he took one step to either left or right he just crumpled on his own, so sad. Sorry to ramble on but yes those were the best days to watch some of the greatest players ever but within about three or four years so many would be lost. The helmets were useless, padding a joke and no effort to do anything about all the cheap shot players like Jack Tatum. Watched him cripple Daryl Stingly and never really apologized. Butkis playing on one knee, it was the best to be a fan but the worst as a player watching so many guys go down with career ending injuries.

Yes in the 70's and part of the 80's at Three Rivers stadium and maybe 🤔 other venues as well (not sure) local car dealerships would park in the corners as sort of advertisement! There was plenty of room and the corners in the bottom of the field had even more after they moved the retractable seats from the baseball season! Pirates and Steelers shared 3 Rivers stadium and they configured the seating arrangement accordingly! But, yep 👍 local car dealerships such as Cochran and others would actually park the cars in the corners of the end zone, down 👇 by the dugout (pirate's) end for advertisement. Actually was at a game as a kid and saw Lynn Swann go out of bounds on an incomplete pass and the defender shoved him while he was running full speed and he turned at the last second AND there was one of the cars that you're talking about and sure enough, with Lynn's jumping and ballet background he jumped over the hood of the car!!!!!! It was unbelievable, everyone there was like Whooaaaahhhh did you see that!!!???! 😮look it up on RU-vid, Lynn Swann 🦘 jumps over a car!!!! You'll be amazed 😉👍!!!!!!!!!
