My friend had one of these about 25 yrs ago and I fell in love with it instantly and quickly became my dream car

Bought my first V-8 Vega in '80 or so...was a real panel wagon,no rear seats,sheet metal instead of glass.327 sb with a PG trans....straight body but thick custom paint cracked to beyond ugly. $750.00 took it home.Dad was not happy. Things didn't improve. I tossed the two speed put in a M-21 hydrolic clutch system.Hunted down a boneyard AMX posi rear axle that was close enough. Well you get it.Then it was a '75 Monza 2+2 factory 262 SB auto trans all choked up with emission pumps,cats you know.Dumped the cats for a pair of old school Cherry Bombs and that hatchback was hauling. Thanks for giving the old Vega/Monza/Astre/Sunfire some love.

My first car was a 77 Monza with V-8. Two of my neighbors also had Monzas with V-8s. One of those neighbors just restored one.

I raced a few of these back in the day with my big tire 71 Vega. That is what rear view mirrors are for.

I had a stock 1977 Vega wagon in that color. I honestly did like the little car. I still to this day think that the Vega chassis was an excellent handler.

I always thought vegs were cool. They even came with a 400 cui engine. I prefer the wagon, unique. Not many built.

It's a Monza. After Vegas were discontinued in 77, Chevy put a different nose on the old Vega body to look like the Monza. Just no factory v8 option in wagons

you don't have a clue do you? dads girlfriend had a factory v8 Monza. I tried for years to buy it off of her. dad told her not to let me have it because he knew a stroker motor, built tranny and big stall would find its way into it after I put 4.11 gears under it!!

You are right Ronielyn, no Vegas ever came with a factory V8, nor did any Monza wagons either.Some Monza wagons DID come with a 3.2l V6, that was a piece of Buick crap engine.

You are very wrong about any Vegas or Monza wagons leaving the factory with a V8. There was a total of 12 Vegas that left the factory with V8s & one of those Vegas left with an all aluminum 302 & a Muncie 4 spd 200 California Monza wagons left the factory with a 350 4bbl carb & of those 200 a total of 2 were 4 spd wagons If you wreck one of these Monza wagons you can forget about using regular Monza fenders because those are one off parts

@@clayrush71 - You are absolutely correct. I have the July 1972 issue of Hot Rod magazine with that aluminum 302 Vega V8 prototype on the cover but I think it had a turbo 350 to reduce driveline abuse. And yes V8 Monza wagons are rare but they do (did) exist. - Check out "The Vega Tapes" here on RU-vid - 406 inch small block in a 74 GT wagon - I built it back in 1988 - 89 It was a fun car...

Great car. One criticism, ac. I had a V8 Monza. Also, no ac. Now that I'm grown up I love a wagon. Need me some ac. Of course I live in the South so forgive me. Great job.

Don't think that clearance for the upper radiator hose cutout was factory nor the Edelbrock dress up kit on the engine. I also wonder about the fiberglass cowl hood installation as it seems to be done was factory. Makes one wonder. Just saying. I'd like to own one for sure!

1978 Chevrolet stopped making the Vega and switched all its H-Body platform to the Monza. Monza Spyder Monza Coup/ Monza Daytona/ Monza Wagon. Chevrolet used left over Kamback wagon shells with the Monza front ends.

look at the speedometer> it will only do 85mph, what junk
@maker-matt
@maker-matt 4 года назад
Everything had a spedo like that back then - by LAW! the idea was to have 55 mph over half way - no joke! just because the numbers stop at 85 does not mean the car wont go any faster. Or in the case of some cars that wont go as fast as the spedo can indicate.

My 1972 Vega inherited a 283 out of an old Impala. It could potentially cruise for miles at >100 mph (if the cops took their donut breaks on time). But -- if a road issue occured at high speed, all the weight was over the front wheels so the driver would find out what "things could go sideways in a hurry" really means. No electronic stability control back then.
