The Jokers wild was my favorite game show that I used to watch at my bedtime which was 9pm on weeknights on a school night and headed to bed at 9:30 pm. This was my extended period of tv show time.
Did you by any chance grow up somewhere around St. Louis? As I recall, that was when KPLR, channel 11, aired it. Me, I grew up in the sticks of south-central Missouri, and as such, our TV stations came out of Springfield, MO, but occasionally, we could pick up channel 11 if conditions were just right.
These are my favorite moments from TJW, when the challenger reaches $500, and the champ has his work cut out for him. The most likely result, Jack saying "Nope, it's all over, we have a new Champion" as soon as a category pops up in the first window. But instead, we get "Joker, Joker, JOKER!"
I think all the cable services did a sneak peek tv to add an additional channel to their lineup. It was either Cartoon Network. GSN, FX, GoodLife TV, Hallmark Channel, and others. I like Cartoon Network but I ended up voting for GSN instead. Comcast in my area picked up GSN.
I would love to see the episodes with Bill Womplin again. Now he was a character. I had those episodes, then like an idiot, I accidentally taped over them.
"My fantasy the invisible-troupe my cousin greg-winslow & myself @ home inside the abandoned acme-market on route-61 in shamokin land of messopotamia northumberland-county ioml".
That music used when Phil won his fifth game (which I'm sure was used when anyone won a car in the first syndicated season) was used when anyone won the Joker's Jackpot on the CBS version.
How long was this guy on before Hal Shear? Does anyone have any eps with Mark Gluckman from 1977? Did any other statrions inGeorgia besides WSB Channel 2 show this game? Awesome find!
The Joker's Wild certainly had a made it a practice to here and there have contestants on the show. In fact, I think it started the first week of the CBS version.
THere's a Phil Gilbert on SCR-28-29(the second episode of the duo at around the 22 minute mark) of Scrabble from April 1989 or so posted at CHristopher Ryan's RU-vid page. I think it might be the same guy.
I never like those Fast Forward categories. I always hoped the contestant would miss the first question so we didn't have to go through the ordeal of watching them answer three or four questions just to miss one simply because they never knew when to stop. I remember one woman once kept taking the joker off the board answering $50 questions just to keep missing after several correct answers. Cheap show since you didn't have to play the bonus round so much time was eaten up with fast forward. I hope Snoop Dogg doesn't bring that part of the show back.
This was actually the first clownish car win music from the 1972-1974 days. They used another goofy tune later on in the CBS run. Wonder why they went back to this one?
@@davidjackino8831 Maybe a young child who loved "Sesame Street" stumbled on the "10 clowns" scene and asked the people of "The Joker's Wild" to bring it back.
