Ex-Chessie or Amtrak K5LA on ex-CSX, now AERC B40-8 #5935. The gentleman I purchased this horn from couldn't tell me the heritage of it, he said it was either ex-Amtrak or Chessie. The horn was sourced out of Ohio.
Imagine running that at track speed how it would sound. If I was to say that sounds more like a Amtrak horn but I know they have those on there older locomotives.
@@ArturoRailProductions Some of the Genesis units in the 90's did indeed sound similar to this but just a lot more crisp sounding because they were in better condition.
The only factory sand cast K5LA was the first one, which was stolen in Florida after one of the first runs on Amtrak. The changeover from sand cast to die-cast happened in late 1976 to early 1977. This horn has O-ring feet which makes it a 1978.
The original Nathan horns from the late 1970's and early 1980's were the best sounding first generation Nathan K series horns ever made. Everything else after that especially between 2010 and today is garbage compared to this.
