In 1975 there was a Hollies concert at QE2 stadium in Christchurch. Ray Columbus was the opening act. There was a howling southwester that night. Part of the set blew away. When Ray Columbus came on stage about an hour late he was greeted by constant boos. At the end of his set 45 minutes later he was constantly cheered, and the crowd was in a great mood for the Hollies. Ray Columbus was a complete professional

So glad I found this...a trip down memory lane for sure...👌 I recall Mr Lee Grant visiting us at Blockhouse Bay Intermediate school in 1967...he was mobbed by the pupils as he got shown around the school. And wow, was he tall😲Crazy, Fun times indeed❣️

... er, the state of the straight NZ music industry. New Zealand was largely ignored because we pushed conventional formula music, most of which was relatively outdated, and didn't dare give airtime to more creative alternative bands (Split Enz being perhaps the one notable exeption, except that they were eventually pressured to conform too). Thank goodness punk came along and shook it all up. That being said, there was great talent in many places in New Zealand right through the 60's and 70's. A look at the 1966 film "Don't Let It Get You" or a listen to the compilation "No 8 Wire" will give a good idea of the diversity and talent around then.

I'd love to see that How Bizarre again. Pauly was not happy about doing it because the stage manager was rude to him before he went on so he rushed through it, but it's the only time it was ever performed live in NZ.

Amazing stories! It makes today's claims of manufactured artists seem quite tame in comparison.

Wish I did! 2 things I'm searching for, unbelievable but can't track down Moana In New Orleans (half hour 1992 doco) and 1996 NZ Music Awards (TV3 broadcast with rare live How Bizarre OMC)...

I must admit I didn't care for the music back in the Lee Grant Rob,Guest Ray Wolfe Craig Scott Sandy Edmond era the music sounded too "musical" and big bandish Rock n Roll or R&B was my genre

@@RM-ti8nf So most males stick Marmites Jars stuck up their rectums and have them surgically removed ?. How is stating a fact, bullying ?. It was common knowledge in South Auckland for years.

@@starquant. Was that mythical or was it true. Rumours were abound in early 70s and I thought it so funny back then. But now it doesn’t even make a conversation piece, so I got a shock that you would bring it
