I had a 1977 Trans Am in 1984 my Senior Year of High school . I made allot of pizza delivers to pay for that car ! I ended giving up the car for the woman in my life at that time . In hindsight I should have gave her up. Your Trans Am is Beautiful !
I had a 1979 Trans Am, my senior year in high school. Same thing, I loved that car. Only had the olds 403, 6.6 liter, instead of the preferred Pontiac 400. T/A 6.6, but still fast enough to break the tires from a dead idle. Also at 70mph. Rpm's were only at 1800. I can remember going 70mph many times on the expressway and flooring it, and was going 100 before you knew it...lol.
@@thebacdoc6464 cool fact, the Pontiac 400 was actually discontinued in 1978 (the car I have with the Pontiac 400) in which it was just the Olds 403 6.6L because the Pontiac was physically impossible to make emissions pass in California and if I remember right Washington, as the engine was illegal in 2 states.
@@vincentflores3302 Haha, that must be a T/A tradition bc I have a 2000 LS1 T/A and it does that. When I first bought it, I was like wtf is with this oil pressure gauge. Granted, it doesn't move around as much as the 70's ones, but I had still never owned a car where the oil pressure gauge moved that much.
Yes sir, pleeeeez do a walk around and straight to the point of the specs. I am doing my 78 trans am martinique blue. Would love to hear the experience about the efi setup
I Really Like how you made this car a Beast giving it all that power and the wheels look Great I figured you made suspension all new but You Really Kept the Look that it had a lot I see they change to much I had a 1976 455 4 speed Hurst shifter white with red interior and bird Honey Comb wheels my Brother got it brand new my Dad actually bought it a lady ordered and didn’t like manual transmission my Brother got a 77 Grand Prix the next year then my Dad drove it a little till I got my DL I drove it in HS went through about seven clutches Brother Dad then I got it about the time it needed 1 pull a Racing clutch In but my Step Mothers nephew did the work some how he messed up and the gears upside down
GORGEOUS! Details on the engine please? I had a 78 Bandit that was a bit of a Hotrod as well with a fairly warmed up 455. I like that yours has a manual trans. Mine was an auto. I tend to like manuals better, not that they are faster but they are more fun! 😎
@@jrvbamafan1 the Olds 403 was 185hp and only came with the auto trans , the W72 T/A 6.6 400 Pontiac was factory rated at 220hp NHRA refigured it at 260hp those are net . The Pontiac eng only came with a 4 speed. The 1977 W72 Pontiac T/A 6.6 was Factory rated at 200hp , the L78 6.6 Litre was rated at 180hp , and the 403 olds was 185hp .
@@tomcherry7029 the Pontiac engine did not only come with the 4 speed. Everything else you said was correct. My father and grandfather both worked at Pontiac dealerships and he had a 78 PONTIAC 6.6 that was an auto. Numbers matching car he bought brand new. If I did enough I could probably find the VIN.
@@tomcherry7029 if you do a quick google and put "did the 78 trans am Pontiac engine come in auto, you'll see auto was offered in all 3 engines. Its literally there in big bold writing at the top of the page. But everything else was spot on
@@tomcherry7029 my father had that car for over 12 years. A 1978 Pontiac trans am with the PONTIAC 6.6 liter 220 hp (actually 260 by NHRA as you stated), an automatic transmission in solar gold paint
This car symbolizes everything that went wrong with American sports cars and why we still have a hard time producing world class production cars. Racing isn't about only going in a straight line.
Perfect graphics! I had two 1977 Blackbirds. One from Ohio and the Olds powered California edition. Should have kept the Ohio car... Running a murdered LS1 T/A now.
Hell. Yeah. I have a Black on Black 2000 T/A that I just bought. Literally my favorite car of all time. But now I really want to add a 77-81 Trans Am to my collection (of 1 car lol).
I had a black 79 TA with the 6.6 L 403 Olds Engine. (less than 200 HP). I had the engine rebuilt by a speed shop but it only managed 14 second 1/4 miles.
It's crazy how little power the Pontiac and Olds 6.6L's put out. We just bored out my 400 Pontiac into a 416 and we are guessing to the wheels it probably makes about 320 to the rear wheels, gray area since it's being broken in and is unknown the exact power but definitely it's only upside is the torque numbers
@carmageddon1886 the T/A 6.6 W72 /L78 put out 260 to 280hp in 1979 and that is a net number gross power was well over 300hp not bad for a single cat. And 8.1 to C.R. a few simple mods made is a 13 sec. car.
It feels good to see that dash again.I sa the movie and have the Dvd.I visit the showroom at in a east Dutch place. When i had my sal ary i could buy it.HK

Power is nothing without traction and control to go with it. I've seen soooo many people with very powerful RWD cars like this one, lose control and crash just by accelerating hard. Give me AWD with LSD any day over this any day. Nice Trans-Am from my youth though.
Do not do it, don't start so fast, it is dangerous, we don't need more pollution. Repent and believe in the gospel of Jesus, the Son of God, the Messiah.
